EricC Posted April 30, 2014 Share Posted April 30, 2014 Flex searches in English Bibles allow one to find all instances of a word in its various forms ("be, is, was, will be, …"). However, searching a non-English version (a user Bible) with Flex Search is not so easy. One has to manually select all the related words. AFAIK, these selections are not saved. It'd be great if they were! That would be the ultimate solution. Especially if it the created and likely always-expanding list could be shared with other uses. For highly-inflected modern languages this would be great. And users could share their "database" of related words on the Accordance Exchange. For me the biggest disadvantage of Accordance is its anglo-centricity. Providing user-configurable options would greatly increase its extensibility. However, if there are databases of similar forms for other languages, it is posible that we could incorporate them into the Flex searches. I think that since there are so many languages out there, and databases of related forms are going to be in all sorts of formats (if they exist at all in non-proprietary format), that the most progressive solution would be to allow users to make their own on the go and save them in a user file that can be shared. I doubt anyone would sit down and make them all up at once, but over time, quite a thorough list could be made. Futhermore, since some words will be used in one translation that are not even present in another, the addition of another (user) Bible in a given modern language may mean that more related forms need to be added. I think it'd be best just to let the users do this work rather than overload the programmers. Then the users can share via Exchange, as they desire. Just my thoughts. Thanks for your consideration.
