Beginning Greek

As I am beginning to teach Greek at my church on an introductory level I would like to see some type of basic Greek grammar offered.

I don't like the approach of "Greek in 30 minutes a day". And I don't think anyone is using my old grammar by Machen (did I spell that right?).

There must be some new introductory Greek textbooks that could be incorporated. I am just thinking that as I use Accordance to teach my class it would be great to have it linked directly to a text in the program.

New Testament Greek by Gerald L. Stevens is a beginning grammar available in Accordance. Of course, there are many resources for teaching Greek that we do NOT have, just cannot get 'em all. You may want to check out the Teknia Software website.

As was said in the previous reply you may wish to check out www.teknia.com. I have been using Bill Mounce's Greek textbook and have found it quite good. My first attempt had been through Machen but I found that after a certain point I needed an actual Greek teacher and not just someone who could read it. I found Mounce's work useful in that he focuses on the needs of reading New Testament texts. Some of his materials are available through Amazon as well.

We also sell the Zondervan Scholarly Bible Study Suite, and although we offer it at list price (since we invested many man-months in the conversion of the texts to Accordance) we will match other advertized prices on request.

Helen,

I'm glad to know of this! I'd prefer to buy things directly from Accordance and knowing this makes it more feasible!

I too wish I had known that as I bought it from another vendor because of the price. Nevertheless, I am thrilled withe the Zondervan Scholarly Bible Study Suite. I recommend it wholeheartedly. The Eadie Commentaries are excellent and the New Linguistic and Exegetical Key to the Greek New Testament is just plain awesome!

I remain a very satisfied Accordance customer.

Tony, I'm just curious--what can you tell me about the Eadie Commentaries? I've had them a while, but have never used them being admittedly often biased against older commentaries. But your comment above piqued my interest.

I have found Eadie's explanation of Greek to be very helpful. I have had the print edition for almost 30 years and have used them a lot. I have frequently used the ones on Ephesians, Philippians and Colossians. In many ways he reminds me of Lenski's commentaries (another one which I wish was available in Accordance - hint hint). Yes, they are old but his insights are timeless (in my opinion).

Thanks for the recommend. I'll have to give them consideration.

It's me again. Still looking at Eadie. Yes, there's some good stuff here that I had overlooked out of sheer bias!

Anyway, I notice that the print copies of the books have a volume on Thessalonians, but the Accordance module does not. I wonder why? The Accordance modules are associated with Zondervan, but another publisher I'm unfamiliar with is publishing the print copies.

Sorry for totally hijacking this thread.

I had not noticed that the volume on Thessalonians was missing. Most of my time had been spent in just the three volumes on Eph, Php, and Col. The print set I have was published by Baker (1979). Another company is gauging the interest in creating a John Eadie Commentaries and Bible Reference Collection (11 Vols.) Evidently I am not the only one who thinks Eadie was a sage.
