map layers

When I change the map window layers pref to show 'light colors' background, the choice doesn't stick when I open a new window (It's stuck on 'colors'). When I open the pref box again, 'light colors' is selected', but it does not change the way the new window actually displays. I've closed the window, opened a new one, even quit and relaunched accordance. The pref box reads 'light colors', but the map still shows 'colors'. Every other change that I made does stick (site, region, etc), but not the colors. The same is true whatever I change the color pref to ('brown', etc). Please help. THis is frustrating!

Hi, Anthony!

I confirm this behavior. Seems odd...

However, you can use the Library Window to change the map prefs successfully. Click and drag the map background you prefer to the top of the "Map" category, then click "Update" in the Library window. New maps will open to the correct background.

Hi neighbor, come down and see us!

I think that you are opening the map by clicking on the Map button. This will always open the top map on the list or the last background opened, so to change that behavior you must rearrange the backgrounds in the Library window, so that your favorite is the one on top. Click and hold on the button to open the background of your choice.

The preferences for which module/background is opened apply to new windows opened from the File menu (where you cannot choose which module/background to open). Other preferences apply to all new windows.

Ouch! I just spoke to a user in UK, and now I had to choose american spelling for two words, it really hurts!

Helen,

What you and Dr J described worked perfectly. It never occurred to me to use the library window. I must say, though, this seems a bit counter intuitive. In the other pref panes (except Parallels, which I just discovered works exactly the same way), changing the setting changes the way the new window works. I'm not sure what the background selection box in the map window layers pref pane is for, since it doesn't actually change anything (same goes for the parallels pane). I suppose its a vestige of a time before the library window. Either way, thanks for your help. I have said this before and I'll say it again: The accordance team has the absolute best customer service i have ever encountered, anywhere (including Apple). Thanks again

By the way, I have been down to see you. I was at the RTS exhibit a few weeks ago (not that I expect you to remember!) and I also met all of you at ETS in new orleans last year (again, not expecting you to remember that in any way whatsoever).

Hi, Anthony!

I'm not real good at remembering names, but I do really well with faces. Unfortunately, your photo doesn't help much! I don't remember anyone looking like that stopping by our booth at ETS—or attending our seminar at RTS. ;-)
