Any new podcasts in the works?

Hey, Dr. J — The last podcast was released August 8th. Are there any on the horizon? Thanks.

Hi, Julie!

Thanks for asking! I am actually recording one today. :-) This next one is important, too, though we need to hold off on its release just a bit longer...

I've been swamped with multiple projects, each with competing deadlines. We have a new Accordance iOS 7 design our team has been working on (I am on the committee.). We're adding a new major feature [or two] to Accordance for the Mac (I've been the driving force behind this newest feature and an alpha tester for it). We've got the Windows release on the horizon (and I am getting up to speed on that platform, as we will be adding it to the podcasts going forward). I am also working on a new kind of training program for our newest Accordance users (we're getting so many requests for our free day-long seminars we can't possibly fill them—and we are increasingly at a loss as how to cover all the features Accordance now has to offer!). Finally, I agreed to teach a NT Intro class at Regent School of Divinity this semester, which uses Accordance Bible Software. I figured I could then better understand the challenges our professors face as they seek to integrate Accordance into their course learning activities. I am learning a LOT, but it has taken more time than I anticipated.

I will also be on the road for the next two weeks (the reason the podcast is being recorded today), meeting with faculty about using Accordance at Regent University (Virginia Beach, VA), Evangel University (Springfield, MO), and [possibly] John Brown University (Siloam Springs, AR), before returning to Florida via Alabama. BTW, as long as I am making such a major road trip, if any of you faculty members would like me to meet with your department, let me know. I'll try my best to fit you in, especially if your institution lies along the route I just described. [i know, I may regret making this offer (sigh), but I am excited about what is happening in Accordance—and I'll have the latest beta of Accordance for Windows with me.]

If my schedule sounds hectic, it is, but it's an exciting time to work at Accordance. Our products and our user base are growing by leaps and bounds! Sometimes I think I need four arms—and two brains (or a really, really good assistant... [Hint]).

Truly, "the harvest is great, but the laborers are few..."

It sounds like you're really over-committed. I know all about that, and it works OK for a while. Not good for a SOP — something will usually quit on you: your body or your brain. Sometimes both at the same time. I've been there and it's exhausting.

Once the new iOS and Acc-PC are released, things should settle down for a bit, right? The tunnel really does have a light at the end, doesn't it? (If I had to get up to speed on Windows it would have a very adverse effect on my blood pressure.)

I kept telling myself that once we got a new resident pastor and he was acclimated to the church, things will settle down around here, but we're not making much progress in our pastor search — we continue to pray. Something had to give, so I'm no longer playing the keyboard every Sunday. We have rotating pianists, and three of us who rotate on the two keyboards, with one or both keyboards occasionally vacant. Steve and I are no longer teaching Sunday school. Those have been changes for the better for us, and the young people needed someone new. We are now down to what we think we can do in a thorough and God-honoring way.

Well, you're not bored, and we aren't either. Can't remember being bored anytime in the last 50+ years.

[chuckle] Seems like you know the situation well, Julie!

Yes, I think things will slow down for us in the near future (after Christmas, actually). Then I will take a long winter's nap... ;-)
