Gedalya Posted September 4, 2014 Share Posted September 4, 2014 Accordance has done a great service in providing the volume "Torah A Modern Commentary" published by the URJ (Union for Reform Judaism) which is one of the 3 major branches of Judaism (Reform, Conservative, Orthodox). If Accordance is not aware, I would like to bring to your attention that the Conservative movement has also published a volume entitled " Etz Hayim: Torah Commentary" which, unlike the Reform movement's volume, contains a digest of the commentary drawn from the acclaimed JPS Torah Commentary on the Five Books of Moses and a digest of commentary from Prof Michael Fishane's JPS Haftarot volume(Prophetic readings in the Synagogue on Sabbaths and Holy Days) plus important Essays on a Biblical life and perspectives; Biblical religion and law; Worship, Ritual and Halakhah; and Text and Context --all these essays written by eminent Jewish scholars. This volume is widely used in Conservative synagogues throughout the English speaking world especially in North America.
