Highlight Conflict File

Recommended Posts

I have setup Dropbox syncing with my mobile devices. When I have updated a highlight file on my laptop it produces a hlt.conflict file in the accordance highlight folder on the laptop (which then syncs with Dropbox. When I sync with dropbox on the iPhone it seems to sync OK and has the latest update.

What would be the reason for accordance creating the conflict file? I have only updated on the laptop and the highlight file was sync'd earlier today.

Steve,

A conflicted copy is created in the remote Dropbox storage when two different clients are attempting to update a file at nearly the same time. See the Dropbox help here. During testing, we've seen this issue only when users have Dropbox working in one platform (iOS) and turn in on in another (OS X) and they don't have their user content up to date between the platforms before turning on the second platform.

Assuming there are no critical changes in the conflicted copy, the best thing to do is quit all versions of the app, go to your remote Dropbox storage for Accordance (Dropbox/Apps/Accordance/) , delete the conflicted copy, and then resync with Dropbox on all your versions of Accordance.

Hope this helps,

Scott.

Thanks Scott. Makes sense, although I had not sync'd with dropbox I did not realise that I had the iPad linked to dropbox when I linked the macbook.

I followed your instructions and still got a conflict. I even unlinked everything from dropbox, then deleted all the highlight files from dropbox, then did an update to the offending file on the macbook and sync'd manually to force the updated file to sync to the iPad/iPhone.

Even then it produced a conflict file. However I have deleted that and it seems to be OK now.

I want to clarify my understanding of how the syncing to dropbox works (for laptop/iPad/iPhone). Could you check the following statements/questions and confirm whether they are correct.

If I have automatic syncing set on my laptop then when I update a user file from my laptop then that file will automatically sync to dropbox within at most 10 minutes (as long as the computer stays on).

If a user file is updated onto dropbox from my iPad/iPhone then that will automatically sync to my laptop if I have the automatic syncing preference set.

If I have updated dropbox from my laptop then in order to get that update onto my iPad/iPhone do I have to run the dropbox sync on the IOS device or can it happen automatically?

If I update a user file on the IOS device does it automatically sync to dropbox or do I have to run the sync manually?

If I update the same file on two devices without having sync'd in the mean time then I will get a conflict.

Yes, automatic syncing will occur every 10 minutes if there are no user content edits. Accordance will reduce this interval if there are user content edits.

Yes, the next time Accordance runs the sync.

The current iOS version of Accordance only supports manual Dropbox syncing.

See above.

Correct for User Notes, based on your preference (Preferences > Syncing), Accordance will either automatically resolve conflicts (newest one wins), or bring up a dialog to manually resolve the conflicts.

For Highlights and User Tools, Accordance always automatically resolve conflicts (newest one wins).

Hope this helps,

Mike

Thanks Mike that is really helpful. Just wanted to make sure I understood the process so that I could make sure I follow a workflow that works for me.

PS. The Dropbox syncing is excellent and makes it much easier to keep my user files sync'd. Great update to Accordance. Thanks for all the hard work you have put into it.
