Need Help Setting up Search

I am trying to figure out how to set up a search, either in a simple construct or in the search box.

There is a portion of scripture that mentions "understanding", in some form, at least four times in 10 verses.

I know that I could simply enter "understand*" and look through the results. But I was wondering if there was a search argument that would give me better results.

Any tips?

Thanks in advance!

You can use a couple of commands in the Search window like this:

understand* understand*

and this will find two occurrences of the word in the specified range, and long as you set also the field to Paragraph or Chapter.

Howerver, it gets unreliable with more repeats, so for 4 occurrences it is better to use the Construct window and make 4 columns, each with the word understand*. Then add a WITHIN between the first and the last, make sure your window is linked to the Search window with the field as above.

I will post a snapshot of the Construct window.

Thank you for the quick response.

I set up my Construct just at you showed. I have a KJVS window linked to it. In the KJVS Search Window it says [LINK Simple Construct]. I am not getting any results.

When you wrote, "make sure your window is linked to the Search window with the field as above." Is the [LINK Simple Construct] in the search field what you meant?

Thank you again for your help, it is greatly appreciated!

Have you set the Field pop-up menu (in More options) to a larger until than Verse? If not, you are confining the search to within a verse.

You also need to change the search tab's "search within every" setting to "Chapter" (you can also try paragraph) instead of the usual "Verse" setting. I tried it with a few translations just to make sure, and I do get results. (Sheesh! Helen is fast as lightning!)

Helen and mikes,

Thank you, that was it!

I changed the "Search within every" pop-up to Chapter and it worked. I have not paid one bit of attention to that pop-up, that is going to come in very handy!

I appreciate it, though those who have to here me preach might not, you just lengthened my lesson a bit. ;)
