Logos Mac Alpha

Has anyone actually tried the Logos for Mac alpha release?

I have it installed. It is little more than a reader at this point. Can't even do a simple Bible search like "sons of God". It truly is an alpha, I'd say maybe even pre-alpha. Personally, I doubt we will see a release candidate before Christmas and even at that it is simply a port of it's windows version, except without all of the functionality of the current windows release and that I am told is by design.

I am glad that I can at least access my library without having to load windows, but personally I think Accordance is a better choice. I am really looking forward to the universal release and improvements in user tools. As these improve I can add my own stuff plus lots of stuff I know will never be added by the software companies. I do not blame them the things I'm looking for would never sell enough copies for them to turn a profit. But with Accordance at least giving us the tools to make these work with Accordance makes it more useful.

I am hoping to see the version 8 release soon!!!!

There is a Logos Mac newsgroup open to all who want to see or comment on the responses to the alpha release. Please let's keep our forum focussed on Accordance.

Thanks, Ed. Can we hope to see your home made User Tools one day on the Accordance exchange (http://www.accordancebible.com/exchange/)?

This is a possibility, although my stuff will probably not be considered scholarly enough by most as I am one of those who believes that the King James Bible is the inspired and preserved word of God, but I will consider it.

Unfortunately, I am still experimenting with the User Tools in hopes that they will mature quickly so I can move my Thematic workflow completely into Accordance, but as of now I am still doing most my stuff in Pages. I am hoping that the User Notes will become more like the Reference Tool modules allowing us to add introductions to books and chapters as well as the verse material which syncs with the Bible modules. For me this would be well worth paying extra for this increased functionality. At the moment I am kind of stuck waiting to see what is going to become of these tools, as to whether to invest the time right now into them. I guess I am waiting for what version 8 will bring.

Not sure why you think this belief is unscholarly, unless you don't have a solid foundation for believing it.

You would probably find that almost everyone here agrees with you, unless you believe that the King James Bible only is the inspired and preserved word of God, which I think is what you probably meant. If you can put forward a good argument for your beliefs, and are prepared to have them examined and argued over, then why not do it?

It may be that your belief in the KJV is in fact of little consequence because the content of your User Tool is history or commentary or exposition or exegesis of the Word of God and not defending your particular bibliological beliefs.

User Tools are not the exclusive domain of scholars. If it helps you, and you think it could help others, then post it. I say the more the merrier.

God bless!

We seem to have strayed far from the subject of this topic, and dangerously close to violating our Forum Guidelines. Please avoid theological discussions here, and keep our Forum a friendly place for users of every persuasion.

There are plenty of other forums for arguing doctrinal beliefs, and I certainly wouldn't want the Accordance forums to become that, as they are far more useful in providing help for other users. My mention of my position was only in answer to the request that I post some of my user tools to the Accordance exchange, not to solicit discussion or argument over them. Furthermore, I don't think Allstair or myself were planning to argue or discuss it on the forum; I know for certain that I would not. I am sure Allstair's statement of having my thoughts "examined and argued over" was meant to be more of a general statement of them being discussed in a scholastic way rather than directly in this forum.

Improved user tools will be of benefit no matter what ones doctrinal persuasion might be and it is for this that I am advocating, whether or not any of my own user tools ever reach the light of day. I am perfectly content shepherding the flock over which the Holy Ghost has made me an overseer. My emphasis was more on being willing to commit more financial resources towards improved user tools, if Accordance would commit more time to their development. Improved user tools and user notes (as a more complete reference tool) would create an even larger body of writers who may desire to have their material published through the Accordance forum.

I know this is an area that Accordance far outshines the competition already, and I think a part of their program that will always set them apart from them.

I have emailed Ed directly on this matter; suffice to say he has understood the letter and the spirit of my posts accurately and has responded with equanimity and finesse.

God bless!
