Dear users,

(I am not sure if I should post this topic in the general forum. If I post it at the wrong place, I apologize for that.)

I plan to continue to pursue my theological study on a next level, probably ThM or ThD and I need two more modern languages and two ancient languages.

I think I will study German and Latin but I am not sure which textbook is good. May you suggest me some?

I am about to purchase Lingva Latina for Latin study but have not yet found one for German.

Thanks,

Kit

For German, I used an earlier edition of Jannach's German for Reading Knowledge.

For Latin, you might also consider the recent and well-received Yale textbook Learn to Read Latin by Keller and Russell.

Thanks JP,

For the language study, do you think I have to go to the traditional class or can I just study myself?

Thanks

The answer has to be "it depends." :)

If you're very self-motivated and are a naturally self-taught (an "autodidact"), then a good book may be enough.

In general, though, a good or excellent teacher will help you make progress more quickly than you would if studying by yourself (among other benefits).
