Searching All Journals

Accordance 9 returns the results of journal searches a bit differently than version 8. After searching all the Theological journals, it nicely displays a summary of some of the results. The summary is generally very brief. In version 8, I was able to look at a summary of the journal articles and then choose to click on the one that I wanted. This feature seems to have been replaced only by the partial summary. Am I missing something? How can I more easily browse through the results of a journal search?

Option-click or double-click on the Journal in the browser to open that journal and repeat the search with full results.

Thank you for your response. I have been able to do this, but I still seem to be missing the nicer summary that Accordance 8 provided giving a nice listing of each appearance in each journal from which you could select the article directly without having to keep selecting 'next mark.' Does this make sense?

Hi, Calvin!

I've been enjoying the speed of the new Search All. One thing I do like about it is that I can dbl-click any item in the browser and have it appear as a new tab. Then I can navigate through its various results easily. I find I really prefer it over the old method.

You are certainly correct about the speed. Accordance is fast in everything that it does.

I don't like to keep repeating my complaint, but can I get Accordance 9 to give me a listing of search results similar to Accordance 8 when searching all journals. Here is what I mean.

Article 2

This is how Accordance 8 returned the search results. You could then select the article of interest. This to me is a faster way to peruse all the results. I can't seem to get this same display in Accordance 9. Is there a way to do so, or do I have to get used to the newer way of Accordance 9?

I'm afraid that you are in the minority. people seem to be happy with the double display of the results in the browser and in the results pane. You can still choose which field to search when you open the tool of your choice, but you can no longer select a specific article.

I believe my question has been answered, though not entirely with the answer I was hoping to hear. I guess I will have to adjust to the new way. I certainly don't want to go back to Accordance 8. I think version 9 has made many excellent improvements. I would still humbly suggest in future versions a faster way to review all the results, something like version 8, but with the better changes of 9.

To ask another question,

After Accordance returns its speedy search results on the journals, it gives a two column display. On the left is a window the journals and the number of occurrences. On the right is partial view of the summary article. How many partially displayed articles does Accordance give by default? Can that be changed?

It automatically fills the window. To view more, simply select more items on the left. We may tweak it in the future, but we decided not to automatically load everything, as potentially that could be very slow. Running searches is fine, pulling content from potentially a thousand modules may not be, so we didn't want to assume it each time.

I would also prefer a setup like Calvin has described. I have been really using the "search all" feature the last couple of days and truly like it, but the manner in which the results are displayed could use improvement. It can be awkward to work with depending upon what one is trying to accomplish. Calvin might not be in the minority as much as it may seem on this particular matter; most users probably think the search all is great overall, but it still needs refinement in areas such as this.
