Shortcut to move to next chapter?

Dr. J,

Let's say I search on John 16 then want to jump to the beginning of Ch. 17 or back to the beginning of Ch. 15?

Is there a keyboard shortcut or a keyboard + click combination for doing that?

Or is my only option to change the 6 to a 7 or 5 in the search box and click OK again?

I've expected such a shortcut with perhaps the triangles at the bottom left but cannot find it.

Thanks, Ed

Ed,

If you're going to be doing a fair amount of jumping around, I would just leave an asterisk in the search entry box rather than entering a single chapter. Then use the Go To Box at the bottom right corner of the window to jump to John 16. That way, you still have the whole Bible displayed in the window, and you can get to other passages via the scroll bar, text access buttons, or by entering another passage in the Go To Box.

If you have done a verse search for a single chapter, and you want to see additional context, another option would be to select All from the Add Context pop-up menu in the More Options section of the Search window.

Hope this helps.

Also, to directly answer your question, each of the triangle buttons at the bottom left have their own command keys:

To scroll by verse, Command-Up and Down arrow.

To scroll by chapter, Option-Command Up and Down arrow

To scroll by book, Control-Option-Command Up and Down arrow.

In each of those cases, too, you can use the shift key to scroll by blocks of 10 items, rather than just one. (ex: Shift-option-Command-Down means 'Jump 10 chapters later')

Hope this also helps! Accordance has scads of command keys, but often they are not the easiest to find or remember. Each of them is listed in the user guide, accessible from the Help menu within the program.

Ok. I guess my natural inclination to work that way is a hold over from being an extensive e-sword user before changing to the Mac platform. I just need to change my approach. The asterisk will work.

If I happen to have not used the asterisk first, I can keep my hands on the keyboard by hitting TAB... Right Arrow... Delete... then the number and hit enter. There is a quick rhythm to that.

But it would be nice to have a keyboard shortcut or a command click or something. Maybe there could be a personalized shortcuts tab in Preferences. Then we could really get creative. :D

Thanks David.

Gah! A geeks paradise!

And like a typical guy, I didn't look too comprehensively at the map. I kept ignoring that still, small voice prompting me to thoroughly move thru the Help section. But it's so laborious when all you want to do is play with the toy... and just spend time studying and preparing.

Hah. I laugh at myself. Thanks Joel.
