Seriously, the only reasons to keep old versions of a text are: You have old sessions or workspaces that open that text (or even hypertext to it in the preferences of the tools). Otherwise the saved file will not open properly. You have documented search results that depend on the tagging of the version, and you may want to refer back to and check the old results if they don't match the new ones.
