My request would be something that could make it easier to import bible texts which do not follow the versification numbers of English bibles. Suggestions: 1. Take an original text (say, BHS for Hebrew, LXX for Greek texts from the OT, GNT/NA27 for NT) versification as standard. or, 2. As far as verse numbers, this "English standard" is more inclusive, isn't it? I would think it'd be helpful for the Accordance folks to release a template of the full potential book/chapter/versification available, including Apocrypha, if any. I have a Spanish version that has in many cases different chapter divisions from English standards, what results in different versification in the adjancent chapters. Joe Weaks Posted May 12, 2007 Share Posted May 12, 2007 When importing my text file into Accordance, I get an error message saying something like 'There are too many verses before Gen 33'. This means, I have to edit my text (as suggested in the blog), and modify all the verse numbers of Gen 32 (and the last verse of Gen 31). Then try again, the file goes further in being imported, until the next difference, in Exo or so. This is sort of time consuming, although it is a one-time work. Eleuterio, I, too, have done this process alot myself. Fix the chapter with "too many verses", then try again and fix the next one. Do keep offering these requests. Helen Brown Posted May 13, 2007 Share Posted May 13, 2007 In order to keep the import simple, we used the KJV as the standard. We really did not test the Apocrypha, so you probably cannot get it to work. It will have to wait for the next major upgrade. It IS very complicated to get all the different Bible versification schemes to work correctly in parallel. It takes a lot of work on our part, and is much too complicated for a user feature. Ramiro Posted October 9, 2009 Share Posted October 9, 2009 I know I am resurrecting an old thread, but since I asked about this back in Feb. of this year, and I see that this was being asked almost 2.5 years ago, I wanted to ask if there are plans to offer a way for Bibles that don't follow the KJV verse sequence to be imported in the upcoming major release of Accordance? Although I understand that it may be impossible to account for all versification differences, I think it makes a lot of sense to at least include the Catholic versification as well, since there are currently Catholic modules already existing for Accordance. If the capability cannot be added for some reason, would it be possible for the Catholic versification to be documented somewhere, preferably in list form, so that those of use with Bible texts to import can simply reference the document and make the appropriate changes in one shot then import, rather than having the import fail a bunch of times and going back and editing and saving and re-importing the text. I keep on banging my head trying to import my Spanish Bible and I just can't get it to work, so rather than continue investing all this time and frustration, I just have to ask. Has anyone been able to import a Catholic Bible into Accordance? Not as a user tool, but as a user Bible. Accordance Support: If it is that difficult to provide the ability in Accordance to align user Bibles that don't conform to the KJV, is it possible to provide a versification mapping for Catholic Bibles? You already have about 4 or 5 Catholic bibles in English and at least 1 in spanish. In the "Do your own thing" training video it is mentioned that people can import Bibles that Accordance doesn't provide, the video makes it sound like this is a feature working properly in Accordance, and yet, from this post, this request has been mentioned since 2.5 years ago and it doesn't look like I am the only one with this issue. We can align them properly, we just could not build taht into the User Bible Import as it takes a lot of detailed work. The question is getting the etext and a license to use it. Another version translated from the original greek and hebrew to spanish is the version Nacar-Colunga, but I can't seem to find the publisher. I don't know if this is of any significance as far as obtaining licenses, but the free program for Windows, eSword, has all these versions, and many others, available for download and install for free. Ramiro Posted October 15, 2009 Share Posted October 15, 2009 To try to fill an immediate need, I tried importing one of my spanish Bibles as a user tool but that's not working either. It brings the file in but all the accented characters are all messed up rendering any searching of any kind pretty impossible. I tried changing the encoding from UTF-8, to UTF-8, no BOM, to MacOS Roman, to a few others and none worked. I tried to copy and past the text from the file in BBEdit into the edit window of the user tool but it tries to create a single link out of the entire text, which fails right away. Importing html docs with UTF-8, no BOM encoding works fine for accented characters, but I don't have any of the Bibles in html, only text. Am I doing something wrong?
