Hermeneia Upgrade: How To?

I just got the Hermeneia upgrade, from 43 to 49 volumes. I haven't installed yet, because I want to make sure my highlights from what I already own will transfer. A few questions.

1. Highlights do transfer now in commentary series upgrades, right?

2. Is the NT-20 a new module altogether than the Hermeneia NT I would have had with the 43-volume module? And Hermeneia2-OT is different, presumably, from the OT I have now with the 43-volumes?

I read through the upgrade page and 49-volume series page, but still wasn't clear on exactly how the process would work, whether I should delete my old modules (since it didn't look like everything would be overwritten), etc.

Primary concern is preserving highlights.

Thanks--

I cannot give you an answer but if there is not it may be possible to have both open and manually transfer it (scrolling through it rapidly it is usually easy to see highlights and stop and redo them. I know this is far from ideal but an idea in a worst case scenario.

Sure--and even easier, if doing it manually, to search highlight styles and navigate with the Mark arrows, to not even have to scroll.

But I think (after some discussion here, among other places), this was resolved so that upgrades would allow for highlight transfers. I'm still a bit muddy on how it works with all the separate modules (especially in Hermeneia) and the individual tool name changes.

UPDATE: Ah, here--10.4.2 added: "Highlights can be transferred between compatible modules, e.g. BECNT -> BECNT-16"... though I'm not sure what "compatible" means. Hopefully that includes everything that is part of Hermeneia!

Hermeneia *should* support this. If you find it doesn't, let us know and we'll post an update ASAP!

Hermeneia hasn't been updated to support this. An update will be posted tomorrow to resolve this issue.

Thanks, guys--I don't need any of the modules urgently, so maybe I'll just wait.

So, to make sure I've got it...how should I proceed to get my highlights to transfer? Just download the upgrade and everything (including deleting the old modules) will happen automatically?

Its not automatic, in case you actually didn't want to transfer! Once you have the new one installed and the update is posted, from the Gear/Action menu on the Highlights palette you should see an option.

Awesome. Thanks, Joel.

I guess I'll just find this out once I upgrade, but if the old modules (i.e., Hermeneia NT with 19 volumes) are still left in my library after the installation and highlights transfer, I'll just plan to delete them.

Yes, we are updating the webpages with clear information as to which modules supersede which other modules, as well as updating the modules to allow highlight transfers.

Okay--just downloaded. Here's what I have now. So I just manually delete the old modules, then? (They're still there, along with the new ones.)

And do I need to transfer highlights before deleting the old modules, or does it not matter if it's all stored in the highlights file anyway?

Thanks for the help.

Please keep the old modules as they need updating in order to support the transfer of highlights. Once that is accomplished you can delete the old ones.

  • 2 weeks later...

I see both these modules were updated yesterday (the old NT one an the new NT-20 one). Thanks! I'm assuming that means I can transfer highlights successfully now and trash the previous module, but please let me know if that's not set up yet and I'll wait.

Well... obviously. I just didn't want to spend extra time if you all could clarify from the outset whether you had programmed this in yet. I'll try it out.

The transfer option shows in the highlight palette gear icon... the highlights seem to have transferred, in that I now get identical hit results in both NT modules (the old one and the new one) for "[sTYLE *]"... but for some reason the highlights (which were yellow) don't show up in either tool, even with hit results showing. The same highlight style shows just fine in other modules.

I don't know if it's just this computer (early 2008 iMac running latest everything) or something buggy in Accordance. Either way, I'll get my own modules sorted out from here--could be worth Accordance staff having a look and testing it out from your end to make sure all is working properly.

Abram, just tried this out for myself, and everything worked exactly as expected. I had a variety of Highlights in my Hermeneia NT module. I used the menu on the Highlight Palette to transfer them. They were removed from the old module, added into the new module, visible and everything. [sTYLE] searches in the old module failed (as they had been removed), and [sTYLE] searches in the new one worked just fine.

Are you sure you are correctly distinguishing the two modules in your tabs, and have 'Hide Word Highlighting' unchecked?

Perhaps you could send me your highlight file?

Okay--after re-starting Accordance, the highlights are now visible (I've never checked/altered the setting you mention). I.e., they are visible in the new NT-20 module and removed from the old one.

So that is expected, and all I did was re-start.

However, the highlights did not transfer exact sentences--same general ballpark (i.e., verses), but not an exact transfer. Did yours transfer word-for-word to the right spots?

Mine was perfect, but I didn't test areas that may have had spelling or word differences. All we can handle is location adjustments. For minor spelling or other editorial changes, we don't have all of that 'diff' info, so highlights may be off by a few characters or words.
