Occurrence of סַף in CDCH

Martin Z

Recommended Posts

CDCH says that סַף II occurs 30 times.

I search in Accordance, it occurs 25 times. סַף I occurs 7 times, which is the same as CDCH.

סַף III occurs once.

Where does 30 in CDCH comes from?

Hi Martin, I suspect it’s because the lemmas a tagged differently by the developers of the Westminster Groves database, as distinct from David Clines’ group.

DCH has the same numbers as CDCH, and I haven’t had time to look at all the occurrences in DCH of סַף I

but in the case of סַף III, while Clines apparently classifies סִפַּ֛י as being from סַף III, WG takes it as it’s own lemma סִפַּי, and hence the difference in counts.

I will have a look at the סַף I occurrences if you wish in the morning

Hi Ken,

Thank you very much!

It is interesting, because usually DCH will refer to סִפַּי in the end of entry of סַף III in this case, as it does refer to סַף III in the end of the entry of סַף.

Please check. I do not have DCH.

OK - this is tedious, but a couple of notes...

a number of times in CDH Clines says

I see!

Thank you very much, Ken.

It is good that he makes notes for those ambiguous cases.

Just as a note, re the opening of references.

If you CMD (⌘) click any reference in a paragraph, all similar references in that paragraph will be opened.

i.e. ⌘-click a biblical ref, and all the biblical refs will open. If you ⌘-click a qumran ref, all the qumran refs will open. You shouldn’t need the extra modifiers.

Thank you, Ken.

I tried again, my ways did not work anymore. (I don't know why it worked.)

Yours is correct.

But is there a way to open the references for the whole entry rather than just a paragraph?

Not that I know, sadly,

You can open a string of references by clicking and dragging, provided you start the selection after the first letter of the first reference and release before the last digit of the final reference. But they must be a list.
