Just upgraded from Accordance 8.2 (which was working fine).

Since 8.2.2 install, the program opens for a brief moment and then crashes. Being it gave little info, I ran it from Terminal.app to get the output.

here is the result:

taz:MacOS jay$ ./Accord &

[1] 1532

taz:MacOS jay$ An unhandled exception occurred at $00346AEC :

[1]+ Exit 217 ./Accord

I am running Mac OS X 10.5.6 on a 4 x 2.5GHz PowerPC G5. I used the Accordance 8.2.2 Installer Univ.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have not seen this crash. We will look into your report. Can you try removimng the Startup Session from user/Library/Preferences/Accordance Preferences?

I did not see a crash when I ran Accordance 8.2.2 on a 10.5.6 install (pretty basic install) on my G4.

I think you will get more information about the crash (that would be more helpful to me) from the Console. You can view any messages written to the console using

/Applications/Utilities/Console.app

Please send a PM to me with any messages from Accordance (when you run Accordance by double clicking the icon in the Finder)

Also, let us know what third party utilities/login items you are running. One way to isolate problems is to create a new user and run Accordance when logged in as the new user.

^^^ Same messages in Console.app.. I had already checked there first.

I looked in ~/Library/Preferences/Accordance Preferences/ and do not see an item called "Startup Session"... just like 17 files (1 is a module installation log) the others are settings files all of which are from 2006 except "General" which was modified today at 9:11 AM.

Will check a "new" user and report back. I don't really have any 3rd party utilities running except quicksilver.

OK.. a new user worked fine so here is what I have done...

I opened terminal.app..

cd Library/Preferences/Accordance\ Preferences/

mv General General.foo

Launched Accordance.. it asked me "Please enter the name to register this under" or such.. entered my name.. it loaded ok.. of course losing all my preferences.. but it loaded.

I wonder why the new user did ask me for how to register it as and new my name when i check the about box...

I guess the General file was corrupted somehow. Is there anything I need to be concerned about losing since renaming this file and making Accordance recreate it?

When a new user launches Accordance for the first time, the initial preferences are copied from the "main" Preferences in "Accordance folder".

If the General preference file is missing then a new one is created with default settings. Most of these are set in the Preferences dialog. Your installed texts, tools, etc should still be the same (stored in different preference files).

The General file is probably changed the most compared to the other preference files, and more likely to become corrupt. Remember to Backup!

Yeah, I have an extensive set of backups so I will just go and grab the most recent that is not corrupted. I do a full each week using SuperDuper! and then nightlies with Synk.

Thanks again for the help.

I'm having the same issue, with the same Console entries as Jay records. This seems to have occurred after installing the 8.2.2 update on my laptop. My desktop machine is still OK, but I won't allow the suggested 8.2.2 update from updater.

What exactly should I restore from my Time Machine back-up file? Or maybe I should go back to 8.2.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I believe Jay had a problem with the General preference file (user/Library/Preferences/Accordance Preferences/General).

If you remove the General file from the Accordance Preferences folder then the next time you run Accordance it will create a new one with default settings. (In case you are having a difficult time finding an old General preference file that works).

We have tracked this crash down to a file on the website that is read by the update routine. The file was corrupted and is now fixed, so there should be no more crashes when updating nor when launching Accordance when it is set to check daily for updates.

Thanks for the update Helen. I put my original General file from yesterday back in place.. (the one I named General.foo) and it works fine. So, it was not corrupt just a problem with the autoupdate system then.

Thank you for the quick response and for getting back about this. Some vendors could have just left me thinking I had a corrupt file on my system.

Have a blessed day.
