joelmadasu
Is there a way to find clauses such as Substantival, Conditional, Final/Telic, Temporal etc... using Hebrew Construct Search?
Helen Brown
Yes, but you need to have purchased and installed the Hebrew syntax, HMT-W4.syntax, and it will work only with the HMT-W4 text. Also it's not finished yet, so works only in certain books of the Bible.
Robert Holmstedt
To clarify a bit -- the syntax database does not include tags for semantic categories of clauses. The fundamental syntactic distinction for clause types is main (independent) versus subordinate (dependent). Within that framework, you can search for, say, a dependent clause that begins with כי and then sort out the causal from the conditional uses, or אשׁר and sort out the relative from the non-relative uses. But for us to have tagged semantic sub-types would not only have gone well beyond the project's scope, it would have moved us farther into the realm of subjectivity than we were interested in. We leave those decisions to the user.
