Instant Details for GNT-T & BHS-W4

I just updated to 9.3.1 today. I noticed that for the GNT-T and BHS-W4, the ID window no longer gives me the english gloss when I hover over a word. It still gives me the lexical and parsing information, but that's it. I do have the "English Gloss Definition" box checked in my preferences. I've quit and restarted the program to no avail. Is this a known issue? I searched the forum but didn't find anything similar.

Thanks,

Irwyn

I would re-run the 9.3.1 installer. If that doesn't help, take a look in your user or hard drive Library/Application support/Accordance. You should see a Gloss folder in there with the Greek words and Hebrew words and other files in there. If they are in Accordance but missing from Gloss folder, you can move them in there yourself. Then restart Accordance.

Thank you Helen. The Gloss folder only has the file "Search All Cache". Where will I find the other files that should be in that folder?

I can confirm that 9.3.1 does display the gloss information correctly, so there must be a problem with your particular setup. Do try Helen's suggestion as see if it corrects the problem.

I just reinstalled 9.3.1 and the English gloss still does not show up. The files that Helen referred to are in my Accordance folder. When I move them to the Gloss folder I end up with additional issues. When I open Accordance I get the error message "The file Greek words cannot be modified because write permission has been denied". The same error message is received for the other files as well. After I click OK for each message, Accordance opens and the English gloss is now included in the ID window. However, each time I open Accordance I get a window asking me to locate each of the workspaces I have set to open automatically. Once I remove the files from the Gloss folder, Accordance and the workspaces open with no issues. Except, of course, the gloss problem remains.

Your problem is with the permissions of your Gloss folder and perhaps other folders. It sounds like perhaps you migrated from another Mac and the users aren't identical. I would set the permissions of all contents of the "Accordance" folder to yourself to Read and write (using Get Info and the action menu at the bottom). I don't understand how this affects saved workspaces, though. I recommend a screensharing session with one of our tech support staff. Please send your contact info for Skype or iChat by email to support, and we'll try to contact you soon, certainly on Monday.

Helen,

You're correct, I did get a new MacBook Pro a few weeks ago and migrated my info from my old one. I don't understand why it isn't a mirror image, however. My skype contact name is xxxx and iChat is xxxx. I'll be on the road for about 12 hours on Monday, so the screen sharing session would have to be late in the afternoon. Tuesday is more flexible.

Thanks,

Irwyn

Helen,

The problem is solved. I went to the Genius bar at my local Apple store this afternoon and they were able to resolve the permissions problem. They were surprised by the problem because I used Migration Assistant, so permissions shouldn't have been an issue. The bottom line is that I was able to drag the needed files into the Gloss folder and am no longer receiving the error message. And the ID window is working as it should!

Thanks for your assistance.

Irwyn

  • 9 months later...

I just had the same issue. I have a new MacBook Pro and migrated from my iMac. The permissions for the Accordance folder didn't come over correctly. I haven't experienced any problems with other applications. I was able to manually change the permissions on the /Library/Application Support/Accordance sub folder by using Get Info, reinstall the upgrade, and now everything works fine. I did lose my preferences in the process.
