Lorinda H. M. Hoover
this post got me curious about the "Speech" feature in Accordance. I'd like to see the following improvements made to this feature: -Expand the Speech Preferences pane to let users set voices for each of the different languages. (i.e. Allison for English, Aurelie for French, etc.) -Recognize the Greek (and if Apple develops it Hebrew) custom voices for the reading of Greek (and Hebrew) Lorinda

arnehalbakken
Although it would be a lot of work and have huge files, it would be nice to have the option of digitized speech besides synthesized. For Greek, it would be great to have the option of reconstructed Koine (à la Randall Buth). As Buth often points out, with Erasmian pronunciation, the Greek word for "God" (qeo/ß) is pronounced so that it is "goddess" (qea◊ß). http://www.biblicallanguagecenter.com/koine-greek-pronunciation/ http://www.biblicallanguagecenter.com/greek-mp3-samples/ Although Erasmian is used so often in colleges and seminaries, it has not been used as for real spoken Greek at any time. With the Hebrew Bible, there are many recordings of Abraham Schmuelov in the public domain. (That wouldn't help with the Mishnah, DSS, the Mekhilta, the targumim, etc.) Mechon-Mamre is another example of some recordings. http://www.mechon-mamre.org/p/pt/ptmp3prq.htm These may not be practical suggestions but one can always ask!
