It occurred to me when I was pouring over the mss data in CNTTS that it would be really handy to be able to sort mss by date.  Then I decided it would also be handy to be able to sort by contents!  And even by Aland category, when available.  Something to do just in case y'all get bored . . .

Julie,

You've got a great idea. I proposed something very similar two years ago at SBL.

I don't deal much anymore with New Testament Textual Critical work, although I follow it at a distance. I feel somethings are afoot and changes on the horizon.

Meanwhile, I proposed the ability to chart variant readings according a verses data set. In other words, take the data and build a database, as you mention. Offer the option to right click on the verse, and list out all variants according in a chart according to several meta data filters. Here is the chart I use in New Testament TC work (for more than two readings, just duplicate the chart as needed):

With the data tagged in a subordinate database, programming options could create all sort of features!

James – One of my Greek profs gave us a similar sample chart for organizing data when doing a text criticism paper.  I found it very helpful, and set one up in Pages.  Once I got all my data in there, it made analysis much easier.  Thank for the feedback.

I'm only a student, not a scholar, but I love to study, and find textual criticism fascinating.  The stuff by Dr. Daniel Wallace on iTunes U is great.  I've lost track of the number of people to whom I've sent the link.  A bunch of homeschoolers are using it as part of their school day.  I got the link from someone on the forums, and have posted it above to make it easier for those who haven't seen the videos to access them.  His sense of humor doesn't come through, but the videos are very well done.  The classical music during the intros is nice, too.
