Christopher Heard
I am using Accordance 10.4.1 on Mac OS 10.9.2 and have encountered a major problem: in most of my non-English texts, the <AND> command does not work, but returns an <OR> search instead. Obviously, a malfunctioning Boolean AND is a pretty big deal. To replicate this, search for טוב <AND> רע in BHS-T 1.4; my first hit was Gen 1:4, which has טוב but not רע. Same behavior in SAMAR-T 2.5, BENSIRA-C 2.4, BHQ 1.0, DSSB-C 2.4, even DHNT 2.3 … <AND> behaves like <OR>. <OR> also behaves like <OR>. You can also replicate this in Greek. Try αγαθος <AND> κακος in LXX1 5.0 or GNT-T 4.0 or NA27-T 1.2. I got verses in which either word appeared. Ditto for Latin: bonum <AND> malum in VULG-T 2.6 yields verses that have either word. Curiously, an older module, BHS-W4, treats <AND> correctly. Now when you add English texts into the mix, here is where things get weird. If I open a tab with only an English text, like the CEB or NRSV, the search good <AND> evil properly returns Gen 2:9 as the first hit. However, if I open a split screen with a non-English text on one side and an English text on the other, and I search on the English text, the first hit is Gen 1:4. Have tried this with HMT-T, LXX1, and VULG-T on the left and the CEB on the right, with the same results each time. It doesn’t matter whether the English text is in the right pane or the left pane. Is this a bug in the program, or something unique to my installation?
Λύχνις Δαν
Hi Christopher, What is your search scope set to ? It should be set to verse for <AND> to operate at the verse level. Thx D
Steve King
Good idea Daniel. I can only get Gen 1:4 to appear on an English text for "good <and> evil" if I set the scope to 'book'
Ken Simpson
I can't replicate this Christopher. Could you possibly post a screenshot?
Christopher Heard
Oh, don’t I feel silly! Daniel’s hunch was right: the scope was set to “Book.” “Problem” solved.
