It would be most helpful if you could make availble the Hebrew Bible divisions for the range search: Torah, Prophets,  Writings.

Thanks

You can already define your own ranges: http://accordancefil...e_ranges_db.htm

This is sensitive to the search text being used. Different texts may put books in different orders, so listing the names (or abbreviations of those names) in the definition box is more explicit than specifying a range (Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Song, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, Esther, Daniel, Ezra, Nehemiah, 1Chronicles, 2Chroniceles rather than Ps-2Chr for Kethuvim; both work for HMT, but the latter will not for most English texts).

The search ranges file on the Accordance exchange has what you want (in part). It's in the highlights section.

Here is a sample of the defined ranges there.

Yes, but I would like these three divisions Torah Prophets Writings to appear as choices in the pull down menu in addition to Law History WIsdon Prophets.

OK Gorab, have a look at this one. It has the classic Tanakh 3 divisions, plus the subdivision of the Nevi'im of the 12, and the three divisions of the Ketuvim (Sifrei Emet, Megillot, Others)

Gordon: you really should learn to create your own ranges, I'll be happy to show you how.

Gordon mentioned this request to me in a webinar yesterday. I believe his point was to help Jewish users feel more welcome with Accordance, right out of the box. The standard ranges we currently offer are all oriented to more Christian (or at least Western) users. His request was for those ranges to appear whenever a Hebrew text was selected as the search text, but I think they are equally appropriate for Hebrew Bible texts in other languages.

Yes, Dr. J, exactly!

The ranges work in Windows, too. I just installed the set on the exchange on my machine at work. I presume the file Ken posted would work in windows, too.

What's missing on the exchange, though is instructions for installing in Windows.

Finally, the suggestion to modify range options depending on selected text is a good one, but I'm guessing it would take a fair. It of programming. Maybe the initial setup wizard could be expanded to let users choose from two or three sets of ranges?

Ken,

I'll try to do so on Sunday or Monday.  (I won't be back at the Windows machine at work until then).  I use Vista; I'll have to do some hunting around to see if the location is different in Windows 7 and/or 8.

That's OK Lorinda,

I'll do it.

Gorab, you need to replace the file that is in

C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\Accordance\Accordance Preferences

with the file from the Exchange. I will update the Exchange sometime soon.

Hope that helps.

Hey Gorab, I realised that the file needs to have the extension .acc1 added to it to work in windows, and be placed in the folder above.

I will upload it to the exchange now, but here is what it looks like.

Is there a way to post the "ranges rules" on here so I can fold these into my current Search Ranges file? I just replaced my Search Ranges file with the one Mark Allison used in a webinar. I'd like to fold these into his without breaking his.

Thanks!

I was in Mark's Basic Searching class, and he sent out his custom Search Ranges file to the entire class for us to download. Maybe you could show this file to Mark and see if he can fold it into his file and re-push it out. I'd like a combination of both Mark's files and the additions you made. :-)

In addition to being a Baptist Christian, I am of Jewish ancestry, so having the Jewish/Tenakh search ranges do interest me, plus anyone who wants to dig more into OT studies might enjoy them as well.

Thanks!

By the way, Ken's latest Exchange file is the same as Mark Allison's file, with the addition of the Tenakh ranges mentioned on here. So downloading the latest Exchange file will give you the best of both worlds, or exactly what I wanted. :-)
