Hmmm ... I like the idea of having people's birthdays on the forums -- it really can be a nice way to connect with our virtual friends here. However, I'm concerned about the security concerns relating to the full date with the year. Perhaps if we just had the day?

You only need provide whatever information you're comfortable with. The OakTree folks are using IP.Board's forum application with little customization (not even a color skin). I bet it's not possible to have the Birthdate with just day and month... either all or nothing.
You can always fudge on your age. I just became 97 years old! It be more fun if it allowed for any year.
