When using the IVP Pocket Dictionaries, I've noticed that in the right hand margin, some of the entries have a blue bookmark ribbon. I can't seem to find in the Help files what these symbols are for and clicking or double-clicking on them doesn't seem to have any affect.

So the simple question is, what do these symbols represent?

Thanks.

Donald,
The bookmarks in the margin of a tool (or text) in Accordance are called the "Marked" entries or verses. You can manually mark an entry with the menu Selection/Mark Selection, but the most common reason an entry is marked is that it contains a "hit" from your search results. If you indeed have any criteria in your search box (other than a *), then you'll see this bookmarks. In the sample I've shown in the picture, I searched for all articles with a reference to any of the gospels. Since the "Aenon" article and the "Aeon" article both contain a "hit", those entries are marked with the little ribbon you see in the margin.Attached File  bookmarks.png   64.32KB   16 downloads
You can remove them with the menu Selection/Remove All Marks.

Thanks, Joe. You hit the nail right on the head and I don't know how that escaped my attention. I didn't even realise I had done that and I was also wondering why the word "his" was in red all over the place as well as the blue bookmarks. I looked after I saw your reply and saw that I had inadvertently typed the word "his" in the search box.

I've only been using Accordance for about 3 weeks and am still learning my way around the program. Thanks much, again, for your assistance!

Donald,
Don't hesitate to ask in the forums.
You might also take the time to walk through the tutorial.
Go to the Help/Accordance help. Then on the home page, you'll see the tutorial. Working through it will be time well spent.

Not exactly part of the topic but..... I would like to thank Joe for his response "don't hesitate to ask in the forums". It is so encouraging for some of us like Donald who are "nervous" about asking questions (especially when we might think that they are 'silly' questions or they may have been asked and answered before) when there are so many others who are willing to kindly and patiently respond. So thank you, Donald, for asking. Thank you, Joe and all, for so much help given on this friendly forum!

Kevin.

... they may have been asked and answered before

Thanks for that, Kevin, I would also want to encourage users to make use of the Forum Search featuer. Sometimes, you can uncover an answer immediately helpful to you, and if a good discussion has taken place recently, there may not be energy for as good of a followup to your newer posting.
Cheers.
