I encountered a rather intriguing problem while editing a user tool today.
-I ran a search for in καταλύμα LXX1.
-I selected all the hits and copied as references.
-I pasted this list of references into my User Tools
-When I hit the Update button, a warning dialog appeared saying that the verse reference Ode 1:13 is not recognized.

I found this odd, since the Ode 1:13 reference comes straight from an Accordance text. Then I discovered that this book is not incuded in any of my English texts (not even LXX–B). I presume this is related.

Is this a bug, or just an unfortunate necessity due to the different books included in the various texts? Or am I missing the correct way to deal with this?

I think all the user tool stuff assumes KJV versification and list of books, which is rather annoying for the 2nd largest church in the world (Eastern Orthodox), or people who otherwise use bibles which don't conform to the KJV. We can only hope that at some time this limitation is lifted.

Yes, it is true that the Scripture references in User Tools must be found in the canon of the Old and New Testament or the Apocrypha, for them to be accepted as hyperlinks. However, if you leave the reference unlinked you can still select it and amplify to the LXX and find it. The same goes for references to other texts such as Qumran or Josephus. If your selection is not found in the text, Accordance will search for it as a reference.

As for the absence of Odes from all the translations, even the New English Translation of the Septuagint from Oxford leaves out this book with this comment:

One “book” not included in NETS, however, is Odes since it has dubious integrity as a literary unit, and, in any case, almost all of the individual Septuagint odes have already been included in their native setting in other books. The sole exception is Ode 12 in Rahlfs’ edition, the Prayer of Manasses, which for that reason has been separately appended to the Psalter.

The Prayer of Manasses is also included in the NRSV and correctly parallels Ode 12 in Accordance.

The New English Translation of the Septuagint is now available with Accordance.

All our Bibles, when used as the search text, appear in the correct book and verse order for that text. We do not impose KJV versification on any text unless the KJV is the search text in the window, and the other text is displayed in parallel.

Thanks for the reply, Helen. I guessed it was related to the relative "obscurity" of Odes, as evidenced by the lack of an English translation.

I'm sorry there isn't an English translation available, only because my Greek is not good enough to quickly understand the context when it shows up in a search of the LXX.

The NETS module is already on my wish list.

Thanks, too for the reminder that I can always select the reference and amplify to the LXX1. I tend to forget that.

For future reference for others who are interested, I found this list in wikipedia that lists the parallels for Odes. Is there a better list/chart for this?

I suppose updating the OT parallels or creating a new parallels module for Odes is more work than it's worth?
