I created a custom map layer on my desktop for my Genesis class that I am teaching. It has all the locations that the various groups settled (70 of them from chapter 10). I wanted to transfer them to my laptop to take to class but can't see how what file to grab. Is there a way to export the layers for use on other computers?

Thanks

The custom layers are stored in user/Library/Preferences/Accordance Preferences/User Layers. If you transfer that file you will have the same user layers on the other computer.

Remember, though, that whereas it is easy to create separate highlight files and share them, there is only one user layer file with all the layers.Therfore, if you replace one such file with another, you lose the layers you have created on that computer.

I didn't realize you couldn't share map user layers. This would be a great way to share work with other users. I could see collaborating with others on making certain maps/layers available to others in the Accordance community—or even adding certain information to an other user's map. However, losing all my work in order to import someone else's work seems like a severe limitation to the map module. Even the ability to merge someone else's work into my module would be helpful, though not nearly as useful as the ability to create layers and share them.

This also seems like a massive duplication of effort. Essentially, it means anyone who wants a map of the table of nations in Genesis 10 must create it themselves. And this would be true of any map that many people might be interested in.

Seems to me like the ability to share map layers would be a GREAT update to the map module. Even the ability to purchase additional maps would be great. But could you add those without overwriting maps you've created yourself?

You won't lose your work if you save your own copy of User Layers in another place or with another name. In the 10+ years since we released the Atlas there has been little demand for the ability to share layers, but we can revisit the idea if there is sufficient interest.
