Which search marker (complement, adjunct, etc...) would one use to find the direct object of verb. The complement appears to include results more than just the direct object.

You are correct -- the complement is a broader item than the direct object.
Finding the direct object requires using the clause searching function, which is being reprogrammed as we speak.
I have to ask you to be patient. When the syntax searching is updated (perhaps with 9.04), I'll post on how to do a few searches like this -- and I'll include the direct object for you (and many others who have asked about this).
