When I click on the 'Daily Reading' icon I get the spinning wheel and eventually have to force quit Accordance to close it. I have tried several 'default devotionals' under preferences, but get the same result. Any ideas?

After accordance crashes, do you get a Crash Report? If not, is there any information posted to Console.app from Accordance?

Nope. No crash report. Going to console.app I can find error messages on 10.0.1, but nothing from today when I have attempted using the daily reading icon.

Do you run a US locale, or perhaps another system location? Especially in your System Preferences -> Language & Text -> Formats -> Region?

Hi - I have another Daily Reading Bug in 10:

I get a dialog when I click on the Daily Reading button.

It asks me "Where is the file for Daily Readings text?"

1) I don't know where it is! It takes me to /Library/Application Support/Accordance/Modules/ and shows me a bunch of folders and I can't see anything I can link it to either there or in ~/Documents/Accordance Files. It all worked fine in 9.6

2) If I click cancel to this dialog, Accordance crashes immediately and loses any changes to the workspace I've made.

Thanks
Chris

PS just upgraded from 9.6 and 10 looks FANTASTIC! so pleased about the interface refresh

PS I downloaded the 'slim' upgrade version rather than the full package, did this mean something wasn't installed properly?

Hi Chris,
if you open the folder that says "Tools", you should see a long list of (mostly) grayed out tools. If you scroll down you will see one that says "Daily Readings" which should be not-grayed out. Select that and all should work.

Let us know how you go.

Only just saw the update...go to Easy Install, and check if you have any modules missing and download and install them if you do. That should fix it. - do that before the suggestion above.

Hi Ken,

Thanks so much for your reply and advice.

I don't seem to have a 'Daily Readings' under 'Tools' which is strange as I was using it in 9.6. Attached screenshot shows a list of some of the Tools folder - all of which are greyed out in the dialog.

I have Library and Scholars 8 Intro versions plus a bunch of add on commentaries and bible versions.

I've tried Easy Install, but it's blank other than a couple of paid updates for BHS and GNT.

I've also tried downloading the full version of 10 but to no avail.

I also can't see how dragging a 463MB version of Accordance (instead of an 85.1MB version) into the /Applications folder actually solves anything as the application package file then contains a whole bunch of files which aren't installed in /Library/Application Support. It used to install items separately to the application file.

If I right click and 'show package contents' in /Contents/Resources/Modules/Tools/ are 'Devotional Readings' and 'Chronological Readings'. I assume I could move these into /Library/Application Support/Accordance?

But how is this meant to work? Surely Accordance should unpackage all these files into /Application Support automatically? I certainly can't select them from their current location inside the Accordance app via the Devotional Readings dialog.

Thanks!
Chris

Following on from this, if I select from the Menu Bar > Window > Daily Reading > Chronological Reading as per screenshot, I get a new workspace, but if I select any of the others (except Daily Light) I get the dialog and the crash when I hit cancel.

Finally, if I go to Preferences > Reading and change the Default Devotional to 'Chronological Reading' then click the Daily Reading button in the toolbar, then I get the dialog and can't link to the default devotional as its hidden inside the Accordance app package!!

Hi Chris, yes it should.

Could you just try resetting the permissions on the Accordance folder?

If you go to the Finder and select the Go menu. Press OPTION and then Library will appear as a place you can Go to.

Select that, the open Application Support

Near the top of the list will be the Accordance folder. Select it (don't double click) and do a Get Info (CMD-I). You will get a window like this (sorry if I'm patronising you).
Attached File  GI.jpg   196.35KB   9 downloads

make sure that you have read and write permissions on the folder (pink box) and apply it to all the enclosed folders by clicking the gear icon (blue box) and you may need to unlock the permissions with your admin password. (pink circle).

Once you have done this, try restarting Accordance and see how you go.

If this doesn't work, you will be best off calling tech support. They may need to screenshare to fix it up. You are right, it shouldn't be this hard, and usually it isn't.

Hi Ken,

Not patronising - really clear instructions and screenshot - thanks for all your help.

My Accordance folder however is in /Library/Application Support/Accordance

rather than ~/Library/Application Support/Accordance i.e. shortusername/Library/Application Support/Accordance

I thought it was Accordance 9 which moved it out of the user's home folder?

I've tried pushing permissions down to all enclosed folders on /Library/Application Support/Accordance and opening up Accordance again, but nothing happens.

There's no modules moved across and I still get the dialog now on all daily readings, no matter which option I use and can't even open the chronological ones now!

Thanks again for all your help Ken,
Chris

Sorry I can't help more than this Chris. I had better leave it alone since I seem to have made it worse! Call the guys at tech. They are great. They'll fix you up I'm sure.

Make sure you post what the resolution was so that we can all learn!

Chris and I worked on this.
  • The Daily Readings module should be deleted from the Library. It has been replaced by Chronological Readings and Devotional Readings.
  • His Chronological Readings and Devotional Readings were nowhere to be found, so he removed them from the Library and did Easy Install to restore them.
  • He updated Accordance to 10.0.1 whioch also got rid of the "fat" program with the Starter modules.
  • There is a bug that when the Daily Reading feature fails to find a module, and you cancel the Finder dialog, Accordance crashes.

Thanks. Clear and to the point! Nonetheless, it seems like a large backward step that "he updated Accordance to 1.0.1". I haven't seen that for years!!! (Sorry - I know it was a typo and you meant to say 10.0.1.

Thanks for filling us all in.
