Atlas tied to bible books, chapters, or verses.

I would love to be able to put into a find box in Atlas the Book, chapter or verse and have the Atlas show me those locations.

John,

See if the following is helpful... control click on any location name seen in the map and it should give you a menu allowing you to search in any of your Bibles. Click the Bible you want and the search is done.

Steve thanks for the response, but I am specifically talking about the opposite direction. As I read my bible it would be helpful to insert Genesis chapter 20 and instantly see the locations mentioned in that chapter.

At this point, I am only able to search each location listed to see the proximity between locations.

Ah... that would be a nice feature. Sounds like quite a bit of programing would be needed!

Having Accordance know what words in a chapter are place names would probably require a lot of additional tagging, but being to look up multiple entries at a time would go some way towards addressing John's request. I know I would appreciate being able to do that.

I am no programmer but it seems to me that all that is needed is already in Accordance. For example, right now is you click on a location in a verse, you can choose to look it up in map. It seems like the same process would be used, only from the opposite point of view. Ex. click on a verse, and any and all locations in the verse, or chapter or even book would be highlighted on the map.

I can find no other app or program that does this.

The problem is that it is the user who decides what word in the text is a location. Accordance is only going to the map using the word selected. If it is not a location it just says the location is not found. So you can select the word 'whatever' and try to find it on the map. Of course it will not find it and it tells you so.

If however you select a verse or a chapter Accordance itself has to know which of the words are locations (in every translation) otherwise it will be giving errors. Of course it could try and test every word and ignore errors but that might be a bit time consuming especially if someone selects Genesis. The other option would be a cross reference (database) that linked location to all its verses in Scripture. So although there is a certain amount of the process that can be used (i.e. the check against the map) there is a lot more to it than that.

Actually just annotating the gazetteer with Ch and vs info would give you the data. Then an iterator over the rows returned from a ch/vs query and calling the existing plot code ought to do it. Of course, its easy for me to say - I have no idea how its implemented.

Thx

D
