Strong's Numbers - What Do I Do With It?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I hear a lot about Strong's Numbers. With having the ESVS, what do I do with the Strong's number of a word? I know that I can get actual Strong's books but don't see any for Accordance. So, what do I with or what can I get out of having the number?

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,

Check out this podcast on them : http://www.accordancefiles2.com/podcasts/p25_keynumbertexts.m4v

And this more recent on also http://www.accordancefiles2.com/podcasts/p66_enhancedkeynumbers.mp4. I haven't viewed this one yet - downloading it now.

And if I recall there is an article on Strong and his numbers on wikipedia. Its pretty brief..

Check out the Acc doc on the keyed texts also : http://accordancefiles2.com/helpfiles/OSXV10/Default.htm#topics/05_dd/keyed_bible_texts.htm%3FTocPath%3DDigging%20Deeper|Keyed%20Bible%20Texts|_____1

All that said the numbers identify the original hebrew or greek for the English words in the text. If you've played with instant details yet in Acc. you can see them there with a simple mouse over.

Thx

D

Strong's numbers are an easy way to search for information on the original Hebrew or Greek words they represent, without even knowing the original language alphabets. Not only can you use them to search for all the occurrences of a particular Hebrew/Greek word, but you can use them to look up definitions of those words in lexicons [foreign language dictionaries] that specialize in such things.

There is not a one-for-one correspondence between a Hebrew or Greek word and its English translation. Translators use variety of synonyms for the same word. Besides, the range of meanings of words in different languages is only rarely the same, making things even more difficult. For that reason knowledgeable people usually do word studies in the original languages, rather than trying to do something like "The Biblical Definition of 'Love.'"
