Secondary workspace with ties to primary workspace

I don't know if it's a bug or if it was an unexpected use case, but, for the longest time, I've been using two workspaces for my daily study.

On my iMac, I have my main tools and texts tied to my preferred study text. Next to that primary workspace, I have another monitor with a secondary workspace and numerous additional tools that are also tied to to my preferred study text on the primary workspace.

If I leave this setup when I quit, or, if I access it from autosaved sessions, everything is fine.

However, if I close this setup and open it again, I lose all of the ties on my secondary workspace to the preferred text on my primary workspace.

This becomes a little tedious re-"tying" all the tools on the secondary window whenever I re-open.

What makes this problem arise so frequently is that I have made a primary/secondary for OT and another for NT, since most of my tools are split that way. Since Accordance crashes when I try to open both the OT primary/secondary and the NT primary/secondary, I can't keep them all available all the time.

I had been thinking about getting yet another monitor for keeping even more tools readily viewable in a tertiary workspace, but I'm worried that I'll discover that Accordance crashes when I try to load a third workspace with ties. I've never succeeded getting three workspaces up in this fashion with so many ties.

Is any of this a technical limitation for Accordance or is it just an unforeseen use case? Maybe it's just my setup?

My primary workspace for OT has 17 tools and 2 texts following my preferred text.

My secondary workspace for OT has 8 more tools.

The primary workspace for NT has 23 tools and 2 texts following my preferred text.

My secondary workspace for NT is identical to the OT, but because dual ties didn't function, I gave up and just duplicated the workspace.

Hi, Chuck!

I am going to take a shot in the dark here. Try giving a unique name to your main tab, rather than using one automatically generated by Accordance (e.g. "My ESVS," rather than "ESVS 1"). That may keep tabs tied to it from shifting to a different tab—or being confused because there is more than one open tab with the same name.

I appreciate the idea, but the preferred texts were already renamed to "OT Bible" and "NT Bible" respectively.

This was because I originally tried to have a single secondary that tied to both OT and NT primaries. That would have allowed me to either open one or the other primary and get right to reading. Unfortunately, that didn't work, which is why I have two unique sets of primary/secondary for both OT and NT.

Thank you though, for the shot!

Chuck, would you mind posting (or messaging me) your workspaces?

Hi Joel,

I just thought to check in and see if there was any new information regarding this problem.

I sent you the four workspaces by e-mail and sent you a personal message here on the forum letting you know that I had done so.

Is there any new information on what the problem might have been?

Chuck

Hi Chuck,

Have you got these saved as a session at all (one for OT and one for NT). If you do perhaps you could open the session and see if that 'remembers' the ties.

Thank you, Steve! I didn't even know that feature was available.

I just tried it and, after opening my newly created session, all the ties were there and working correctly. :D

Oddly enough, using saved sessions has allowed me to open both OT and NT sessions (i.e., all four workspaces) at the same time (so far) without crashing.

Thanks again, Steve: it may be time for me to invest in a third monitor. :)

I'm glad this is working better for you, Chuck. I did get your workspaces and message, but they still sitting flagged, to be responded to, so I apologize for the delay! We've been quite overwhelmed here recently with some.... work. ::cough:: :)

Chuck, glad the session idea worked. I had a similar setup a while back. It always meant you could get back to your original setup.
