Vocabulary List

Is it possible with Accordance to produce a list of Greek words (with translation) of a specific Bible book, and sort the list by chapter? In other words, a Greek-English list of say, John chapter 1, ch. 2, ch. 3, etc.

Thanks,

Ingo

You would have to make the list separately for each chapter, Accordance does not sort it that way. It lets you sort by number or alphabetically, the lexical form or the inflected form.

To create the list:

search for words with the argument *
[RANGE John 1]

click Details and click Analysis

use Set Analysis Display to adjust the details of the window

Then you can copy and paste the list to another document, and repeat the search for each chapter.

For a verse-by-verse, word-by-word list, you can use the Parsing feature.

Start by doing the word search for * <AND> [RANGE john 1-3], click in the results, select all (cmd-a), then go to Amplify menu > Language > Parsing to create a new tab/window with the selection.

Use cmd-t to set the parsing display parameters (e.g., you could uncheck all Show options except "Gloss" for a fairly minimal listing).

Even with the font size set to small, the parsing for John 1-3 results in 64 pages of material when printed from Accordance. You can save this File > Save As Text File > RTF... to export this to open it in your word processor of choice for further formatting (in Mellel, for example, setting the font size to 10 pt results in a more manageable 36 pages).

Thanks! Good work-arounds.

A built-in sort-feature like that would be very convenient for teaching & learning; probably involves a lot of tagging though.
