Creating User Commentaries

Does Accordance have the equivalent to Logos' Personal Book Builder? I have written my own commentary on the harmony of the Gospels and would love to link it into Accordance.

I would say either a user tool or user notes. The difference is that the user notes are linked to individual verses, so that it is really like a commentary. As you move through verses in the Scripture, the user note file automatically follows along. A user tool, on the other hand, is not linked to a single verse. This allows you to enter information for multiple verses - but it does not follow along as you move through the Biblical text. Also, because user notes are linked to verses, when you bring your comments into Accordance you will have to do it verse by verse, whereas you can import the whole file into a user tool all at once. Personally, I keep my commentary stuff in user notes (though I have only recently started doing this), and I do more topical bible dictionary type stuff in a user tool.

I agree with Bret. A user tool would be best for general information about a book (date, author, outline, purpose, etc.) User notes would be good for the actual commentary. I would add that you can create a user note for multiple verses. To make a note on multiple verses, you simply add the range to the reference of the note on the first line. This works well for me as I rarely make a note on one verse.

Agreed on the User Notes except that if he wants to add links to other modules the User Tool may be better? It doesn't sound like that's the situation now though.

I just saw this, and also just asked an almost identical question... this isn't the answer I was hoping for. Maybe I'll get more information on the one I posted. By the way, does Accordance support ever drop by these forums?

Accordance personnel are on these fora every day.

Thx

Highland04, we do very regularly drop by and respond to just about every topic.

User Tools are an excellent way to import books and other files you have into Accordance. They are fully searchable, editable, and support multiple languages, links to other resources, and more.

The specific question clp698 was asking is have a commentary-like tool, where it will scroll alongside your text. Unfortunately, that one missing aspect of scrolling alongside is currently missing, though we have plans for many nice improvements to the user tools that will help this issue (and many others).

  • 3 years later...

Joel,

Has this changed at all in the last 3 years? I too would love to be able to make a commentary that scrolls along verse by verse without having to copy and paste each verse's material individually. (I have a doc that I would prefer to just mark up and import.)

Thanks!

I imported an HTML file as a user tool and have it in My Toolset and it works well.   I think you can do what you are wanting to.

unfortunately not. They have also a much wider area to import user content.

On the image there are only the second half of the possibilities.
