joelmadasu
There are 139 occurrences of ?? in BH. When I use the construct search to search for - occurrences of ?? in Independent clauses, I get 74 hits (See picture 1). When I search for occurrences of ?? in Dependent clauses, I get 72 hits (See picture 2). Am I doing something wrong? When combined, the total hits are 146. That-is-not-right. Please help me! Darin Franklin
I think it is due to nested clauses. The word in Gen 28:16, for example, is inside the speech clause, NA ("Surely the Lord is in this place"), which is part of the outer clause N (he said, "Surely the Lord is in this place"). Notice that the NA clause has the purple color of the L tag, which means that it is tagged as a dependent clause.
Robert Holmstedt
Yes, it's the issue of speech. You need to distinguish between Speech and No Speech in the clause box.
joelmadasu
Thank you for your help, Darin and Dr. Holmstedt. How do I do that using construct search?
Robert Holmstedt
It's a set of boxes to check at the bottom of the clause pane when you insert a clause into a Hebrew construct column. joelmadasu
I cannot select speech/no speech boxes when I change my search from independent to dependent. Is this normal?
Robert Holmstedt
Yes. that's normal. Speech has an "in-between" status (well-recognized in linguistic literature). The speech/no-speech distinction is only available for independent clauses.
