Done.

Thanks, Dustin!

It would be helpful to have a video displaying/explaining the latest updates to the app.

Thanks

Hi Rick,

Have rated in the UK app store. I think this is a good step forward but I think I had been expecting a little more... please don't think I am knocking Accordance for this - I know you have limited budgets etc., and I know the bulk of the work will always be in the desktop client which is truly a superb piece of software but I find I use the iPad version much more [partly as it allows me to study on hour train commute to and from work] and so I wish it could do more...

This is text I left - if you think I have been unfair I will try and change it or remove it...

"Ver 2 of Accordance is a welcome improvement but I still find it to be more like an after thought compared to the desktop version and this is a pity as I find myself using the iPad much more…

Where is the map and timeline?
Why can’t we have a section of the screen dedicated to instant details?
Why can’t we have ‘one touch’ amplify to a user selected dictionary/resource
etc., etc.,"

Leopold, thanks for the honest feedback. I quite understand what you're saying as I, too, find myself using mobile apps to an increasing measure. Even right now, I don't have my computer with me, but I can reply from my iPhone. I'm a firm believer that, to paraphrase Steve Jobs, while we will always need trucks (traditional desktop and laptop computers), mobile is the way of the future.

I think it's okay to say that there are certain features we hoped would be in this release but it came down to a question of whether we released now or waited (this is always the case for every piece of software for any company). I, for one, am glad we didn't wait. And I can tell you that more features are coming, and you won't have to wait for 3.0 to get them.

I believe it's also okay to mention that we've recently hired more iOS programmers, so I both hope and predict that we will see updates and new features coming at a faster clip than we've previously seen.

Hi Leopold, thanks for the feedback, and the review on the App Store. We genuinely appreciate any and all feedback and ratings.

My response to this review, is that well, it isn't much of a review! Your only comment on the app itself is that it was welcomed. The other comments are either speculative, or feature requests, which in my opinion should not be in a review (but more appropriately here on a forum where we have the ability to track feature requests, and reply with reasons why certain features are either not yet available, or simply not planned at all).

So, to reply to your points:

After thought: Historically speaking resource-wise, Desktop development has been a higher priority. But, that does not mean the Mobile app is an after thought; nothing we do is an after thought. In the last couple months we've hired 2 new iOS Developers, and have an aggressive roadmap for the future. There were several other factors that played into some of the delays with 2.0, but none of them were because of the app being an after thought.

Atlas/Timeline: The Atlas and Timeline were first developed for Accordance circa 15 years ago, and as far as the programming is concerned are completely unique and custom; they are not static resources. In order for these to be compatible with the Mobile app, and iOS interface guidelines (touch interface, etc) they need to be largely re-thought. This is a time-consuming process and simply does not rank high enough in our development roadmap at present. But, it is something we've been discussing since the app was first released.

Instant Details: As you can imagine, screen real-estate is precious on iOS devices. Not only that, but there are certain interface standards that have to be considered (though I confess that Accordance does not fit within most of the "standard" interface aspects of other iOS apps). That said, an option for Instant Details to occupy a dedicated portion of the screen does not seem like a viable option to me. I am not the final arbiter, but not only have I never seen anything like that on any reading-style iOS app, but no one to-date has requested it among our users.

"One-touch" Amplify: Well, in a way you do have this already in tagged texts. Touch and hold on a tagged word and you will get the Instant Details view, which in addition to showing parsing information, will also display the entry for your top-level lexicon (which can be customized by re-ordering it in the Library view) or key number dictionary. If you are requesting to amplify to a new view with one touch, I do not see how that is possible without sacrificing other significant features (text selection, highlight, define, notes, Instant Details etc).

Thanks again for your feedback; I hope this helps to address some of your questions.

Hi Rick and Rick,

I'm sorry Rick (Bennett) I can see I have caused offence and that wasn't my intention although perhaps by writing my "review" fairly quickly I am guilty of acting in haste - so sorry!

Let me be clear I think Accordance is an amazing company and that as a company - based on the engagement on this site alone - you are in the top 1% of software companies for engaging with, and caring for, your users!

You are also right to say I didny leave a review and I didn't list the improvements and I agree I should have done this - not least the ability to link and unlink parallel resources.

I accept that the tablet market is becoming an important market for you and I note all Rick Mansfield says in his reply (BTW your posts are very helpful and make you a good example of a software evangelist!) but Accordance for Mac or Win c/w iOS as things stand demonstrate the difference between an ereader and a fully functioning piece of software.

Maybe my expectations for what would be in iOS ver 2 were unduly inflated... not how difficult all this is to code I do hope you can get Accordance iOS to be demonstrably more than an ereader. A great example of what you can do on iOS (from this week) is Ulysses and it would be great to see Accordance get toward that level of power and simplicity in ver 3

I am sorry if have come over as negative - that isn't at all how I feel.

You didn't cause offense at all. Objectively speaking it was a rather minimal review, that's what I was getting at. It's not just you; most all "reviews" on the app store are like that, or much worse. And Apple offers no way to reply to reviews, or even challenge completely baseless issues reported that are actually user error. If I have an offense, it is with Apple over their horrible review system!

Do keep the feedback coming, as mentioned, we appreciate any and all. And Thank you for reaching out here on the forums.

I thinks we've discussed this before here http://www.accordancebible.com/forums/topic/12987-heavy-ios-users/?hl=%2Binstant+%2Bdetails+%#entry60821and in some other places.

Thinking about it… the split window could be used for the Instant Details info pane. Perhaps you need to add a switch in the toolbar to switch between the commentaries view mode and Instant Details mode. Then I tap-and-drag across the text in the top window and see parsing/dictionary info in the Instant Details. Then flip the switch and I'm back in "normal" commentary/user notes view mode.

Guntis, maybe I missed it (reading quickly on iPhone), but where does that thread discuss a persistent Instant Details?

We've already discussed internally the Info Pane.

Hi, accordance v2 has updated on my ipad2.

My iphone 4s is still 1.7.9 and shows no inclination to want to update. Is this because of the iphone is still on a late version of ios 7????

This version requires iOS 8+

I am delighted mostly for 2.0, but I am going to hold of reviewing it because of a defect I have not yet reported. I opened Venite and was shocked I was unable to bring up a table of contents, and while Day 20 remembrances starts of it is blank rather than

20 MAR • CUTHBERT: Bishop of Lindisfarne, England, 687

You called Your servant Cuthbert to he a shepherd of Your people:
Grant that, as he sought in dangerous and remote places
those who had erred and strayed from Your ways,
so we may seek the indifferent and the lost, and lead them back to You . . .

Now I don't; have an issue jumping to it but there is no way to do it. And with no way to open the table of contents (that I have found), it seems like a step backward.

I can reproduce this when opening Venite as a Devotional. When you open it from the General Tools category it functions normally. My guess is that Desktop has some code to handle this properly which  has not been ported over fully or correctly. We'll take a look at this.

For future reference, please report items like this in an appropriate forum for bug reports. Had I not been following this thread already, we may not have noticed it as quickly.

Thanks for the feedback.

I would have eventually done that... thanks for clarifying how it can work more properly.
