A vote to get rid of the verse reference highlighting error message

I hereby vote that Accordance get rid of the message that says the following when trying to highlight a verse reference:

"In order to highlight or clear a text selection in a single verse, the selection cannot include both words and a verse reference."

Obviously, it is possible for Accordance to highlight over verse references, since it does it will do it when selecting multiple verses.

People don't want to have to think about whether they are selecting more than one verse or just one verse. They just want to highlight their text.

Let's get rid of it! Build in a default function when one highlights a single reference. If we don't like that we can delete it or change it.

Here's hoping!

Battlesmith,

The error message is there to make sure users know which kind of highlighting they are about to apply.

Accordance uses two kinds of highlighting: word/phrase (where the highlight is only applied to the current Bible) and reference (where the highlight is applied to all Bibles).

If you want to highlight a verse (or two), just choose the reference. If you want to highlight a phrase, just select the phrase; if it spans more than a single verse, select the text in each verse and apply the highlight separately.

Thanks for the explanation, Dr. J. That's helpful to know.

However, since the error message does not explain such, it seems pertinent to change it to something more helpful. For instance:

- A box with two buttons: (a) "Highlight just this version"; (B) "Highlight all versions."

- Or better yet, a check-box in the preferences saying, "Highlight all versions."

There's gotta be a better way than error messages in Accordance. OS X notifications, maybe? This error message and others drive me nuts.

The use of "in order" could definitely be removed--wordy!
