Text selection limitations

When trying to select paragraph-long text (for example, out of a commentary), I cannot select text which extends beyond my current screen real estate. Why is this? One expects that pulling the text selection handlebar down the paragraph would cause the screen to automatically scroll down while text is being selected. Very annoying that this necessary feature has not been implemented yet.

Is the worry that someone, for example, could potentially select the entire text of the Anchor Bible Dictionary and paste it into a word processor? I can assure you my time is better spent on other things. Would like to wean myself off of BibleReader (best iOS Bible program in terms of visual layout but very bloated and slow nowadays), but selecting, copying, and then pasting paragraph-length text is a necessary function for me.

I will say that I like the current speed of Accordance and the ability to get most of my tools onto iOS (and I do value speed more than anything else!). I also thank you for the multi-verse copy option as this greatly helps when preparing sermons.

Thanks for your consideration.

Hi, Jerome!

I assure you that it is not that we are trying to set any sort of limit on you. Our desktop applications for PC and Macs both allow people the select large sections of tools and texts.

It's more a limitation of the touch interface in iOS than anything else. We can select a large amount of text by selecting the verse reference and then clicking the arrows at the top to include more verses. Unfortunately, selecting a large section of a tool doesn't have that option, since there are no references. Note that neither will allow us to select a section of text, use a fingertip to scroll, then continue the selection. iOS interprets that fingertip as selecting something else on the screen.

I'm not sure how we would solve that issue. Meanwhile you might consider buying our Mac/PC app. The Starter Collection is very attractively priced for those on a budget.

One workaround for selecting large blocks of text is to reduce the font size until what you want is on the screen - or at least a bigger portion of it.
