Gedalya
When looking up the word שחט in Kohlenberger/Mounce, two definitions come up. Definition 1 is "slaughter, kill..." 81x Definition 2 is "to be hammered, beaten....". 5x When I click on the keyed strong Bibles listed in Kohlenberger under Definition 2, only the NIV brings up verses limited to this definition, ie "hammered, beaten". The 5x next to the word שחט only applies to the NIV G/K but not the other keyed Bibles Why is this?
Helen Brown
GK numbers are more accurate than the older Strong's system because they distinguished words or meanings that Strong lumped together. However in this case, the second Strong's number is equivalent to the second GK number, and a search for it pulls up the same 5 occurrences. I am not sure why the dictionary lists two Strong's numbers for the same second meaning, and then finds either/or: GK H8822 | S H7819 & 7820 שָׁחַט šāḥaṭ 5x but that is why they are combined in the search. The same happens with this entry: GK H64 | S H58 & 59 אָבֵל ʾāḇēl We will need to ask Dr. Mounce.
