Larry Wing
I'm trying to better understand linking from other programs and have tried to set up a link in MS Word on Windows 7 computer. I have copied and pasted the sample URIs in the help file into Word but am stuck there. When I try to make it a hyperlink a dialog box opens for me to physically point it to some location, which doesn't seem correct to me. Can someone explain how to set up a link to call Accordance from Word or if this is even possible. Thank you.
Λύχνις Δαν
Hey Larry, I've not tried this from Word but I checked out its URI dialog briefly this morning. It's basically the same as LibreOffice or Zotero. I suspect most editors do it this way. There is the text you highlight in your doc and there is the link (URL it points to). In the dialog that opens the thing you pasted into the document is the text that shows in the document rather than the link (yes even if it is the link). The link (or target to use LibreOffice terminology) is what will open when you click on the text. So the simple thing to do in the dialog is make the target the same as the text. Just copy and paste it in there. In the Word dialog it look fairly complicated because they include a file finder dialog in it as well. I think this is just so you can create a link to another file. Looking at an image of the Word dialog box, the text in the document is called "Text to display". The target is called "Address". Confusingly there is a file finder in between them but you can ignore it. Once you have this in your doc, a simple ctrl-click should cause the link to open in Accordance. Larry Wing
Thank you. Leave it to Microsoft.... The link opens Accordance but doesn't perform the action. Any ideas? accord://read/ESVS?Mark_1:
Joel Brown
Are you using Accordance 11.0.7?
Λύχνις Δαν
Yes - there is a bug with the handling of "_" substitution for spaces in some parts of the URL that I reported (and it was fixed) yesterday. Instead try : accord://read/ESVS?Mark%201:1 I don't know what it will do with the 1 following the 20 but let's hope. Thx D
Λύχνις Δαν
Nope that ain't it - it should work either way on 11.0.7 on Mac - just tried it. In any case try the %20 I guess. Thx D
Larry Wing
I substituted the "_" with "%20" but that didn't work either. For clarification, this is v11.0.7 on Windows 7.
Λύχνις Δαν
Ok this may not please you. I tried a simple cut and paste from the doc of accord://read/ESVS?Mark_1:1 into LibreOffice on Windows 7 SP1 and this worked fine. I don't know if there is a Word bug here or not as I do not have Word to try this with. ThxD
Michel Gilbert
Hi Daniel, I typed Mark 1:1 in Word (latest Office 365 version), inserted your hyperlink, pressed Ctrl+Click and Accordance flashed for a split second. I clicked on Acc on the taskbar, and Mark 1:1 ESV with Strong's showed up in a new pane. Regards, Michel
Λύχνις Δαν
Thanx for doing the test Michel. That's what I would have expected. So Larry, I'm not what's happening in your case. I tried an experiment you might like to try. I pasted the URL above into the URL box on the Firefox browser and hit return. That opened Mark 1:1 in Accordance. If that works there is likely something funky going on with your word document. If it doesn't it'll be something more arcane. At this point calling support might be your best bet. Or a video. Larry Wing
I tried the links in Firefox (Chrome did a Google search) and all it did was open Accordance but not to Mark 1:1. I also tried a simple search example but it didn't work either. I don't have LibreOffice installed on this computer but I do have another word processor which I tried. It opened Accordance but not the target. I'm guessing it's something with my system? I'll contact support. Thanks for your help.
