Niek
I would like to search for an ע''ו verb that is not also a ל''ה verb. How do I add this negative to my search?
Niek
And a related question: I was looking for hif'il or hof'al verbs in the imperfect or participle in which the heh-prefix is preserved. I added the following to my specific verb tag: "*ה?"@ This also presents roots that start with heh. I would like to filter out all these roots. How do I add this? Or is there maybe a better way to get to the same results?
mbcvida
+?w?@ -?wh@ [VERB] (RTL) - does this work for you?
Ken Simpson
Dick gets it I think, though I would add the hifil/hofal condition [VERB (hifil, hofal)] @?wh-@?w?+
Helen Brown
You can indeed string a number of conditions together, each connected with @. But you ask 2 separate questions. Both are better served with a negative single wildcard. I would like to search for an ע''ו verb that is not also a ל''ה verb. How do I add this negative to my search? You can find this with the expression (again RTL) ?w?(-h) which gives any lemma with waw in the second position and any character except heh in the third. Here I am a little confused as you mention a heh prefix but I think you mean a suffix. If I search simply for all [VERB (hofal, hifil) (participle, imperfect)] I don't notice any inflected forms (In the Analysis) with heh except at the end of the word. In any case, to eliminate lemmas with peh-heh add @?(-h)??, and to eliminate those with lamed-heh add @???(-h). Here's an example combining these searches, looking for your specified verb tag with a lemma that is not peh-heh, is ayin-waw, is not lamed-heh, and has an inflected form with a heh in it. I hope this helps.
Niek
Thank you very much for your help. I should perhaps have asked the last question separately. In the second question I was looking for a hifil impf/ptc in which the heh-prefix (!) remains (excluding pe-heh roots), finding forms like יהושיע. I found the right results with your help by adding the following to my verb-tag: @+?(-ה)* @"?ה*" Thanks!
