Brett K. Posted August 6, 2015 Share Posted August 6, 2015 Two things:1. The Good News Bible/Today's English Version was officially renamed the Good News Translation in 2001. It's official abbreviation is GNT. I know that conflicts with the "Greek New Testament", but everytime I copy as citation from Accordance I have to change the TEV abbreviation to GNT. Is there any chance we could get the module changed to GNT or at least the abbreviation changed when copying as a citation?2. The American Bible Society online Bible utility now defaults to the Good News Translation with Deuterocanonicals (GNTD). So they do have it in electronic format already. Alistair Posted August 6, 2015 Share Posted August 6, 2015 Many many many Bibles ago the very first Bible I actually purchased for myself was the Good News Bible. But the name of the translation itself changed to the Good News Translation in 2001. There is no difference between the text printed in 1992 and 2015, but it is called the GNT now. Alistair Posted August 6, 2015 Share Posted August 6, 2015 I am thinking that when OakTree licensed it from the ABC it was called TEV, and unless the term of the licence are changed they have to keep on calling it the TEV. Unix Posted August 7, 2015 Share Posted August 7, 2015 I would like to make a related suggestion - and if produced in Accordance I would recommend the platform 25% more (already my favourite platform and which I recommend the most and usually recommend as the only platform to use at any serious level and definitely the only one to have at a very serious level):The 2004 Good News Translation 3rd Edition UK-English 66-book Bible. The Old Testament in it (incomplete as it doesn't have the Deuterocanonicals produced in this Edition) is the 3rd Edition, the New Testament is the 6th Edition. It's the most popular version in the UK so I think there would be demand, + if Accordance would list it in the Store many more people would discover that this new Edition has come out. I have this Edition in print. I don't know how much differences there are in total, but I know there are, compared to the previous UK-English Edition from 1994. There doesn't seem to be an American English "3rd Edition" of this and it's been some time, so I would really recommend OakTree to go ahead with this 2004 UK-English Edition! As I use the Deuterocanonicals myself (at least 1-2 Mc, Sirach, 4 Ezra) and am going to teach from them I understand some will want them, but would still recommend giving the 2004 3rd Edition high priority: 2. I suspect you are right and in brief searching I found no firm numbers (closest thing was Amazon.uk.co stating the NIV is their best selling edition, 5 of the top 10 were various NIV/NIV Audio Bibles, 4 were KJV, and at 8th ranking was a NLT version. I did not see a GNT/TEV edition listed in the top 50, indeed I did not locate it on Amazon's list till 85th best selling, it is possible i missed an earlier edition but that is where I located it, and i also know that is it just one retailer), however I did locate Why Britain loves the Good News Bible, which would lead me to believe it is a top seller in the UK still. Between the GNT and NIV2011 NIV wins most every time for me, that said if i had to pack up a bag and had to choose between those two it would likely be the GNT since I prefer to have a Bible with the Deuterocanonicals in it. And more than either it would actually be the NJB that i would pack.... Thanks -- Brett The abbreviation used is the same as our internal 'module name.' I don't see any other way to change the name used in the citation, other than rename the module, which is not really feasible. It is also a bit unclear to me at present whether our TEV is the same as the "Good News Translation in Today’s English Version- Second Edition Copyright © 1992" (taken from American Bible Society's site). The switch to the Good News Translation was only a name change (in 2001) for marketing purposes when Zondervan had the rights. They wanted people to know it was a translation and not a paraphrase.
