Hi , I have been reading a book called "The mysterious numbers of the Hebrew Kings" by E Thiele. I actually ready a portion of it also back in 1978. A very good book IMHO. Has Accordance ever thought about including it in their offerings? Dave

If memory serves me well, this is discussed in Kingdom of Priests including observations where Merrill deviates from Thiele's chronology.

Kingdom of Priests is available as an Accordance module. http://www.accordancebible.com/store/details/?pid=Merrill-Kingdom

I assume all the Bible Dictionaries that Accordance offers have an entry for "biblical chronology"or some such entry that would give you an abbreviated and updated account (Thiele's book first came out in 1951).

Any quality commentary on Kings and/or Chronicles should have a section on the chronology.

Thiele also wrote A chronology of the Hebrew kings (Zondervan, first published 1977)

It is "a simplified shorter version" of The mysterious numbers…

Yes, I have that one too and it is the one I read in 1978.

Well, Kingdom of Priests is "A history of Old Testament Israel" and therefore is much wider in scope than Mysterious Numbers…

It is published by Baker Book House and would probably be considered fairly conservative, but deals with contentious mattters quite fairly (i.e. with arguments and evidence, not rants and polemics). He supports the early date for the Exodus and gives reasons why, not simply because that is what the Bible says.

I read this book cover to cover back in the day when I was able to afford such luxuries. I liked it so much I bought the company I scanned the book and have it on my Mac as a searchable PDF.

The contents page of KOP (1st edition—The Accordance module is the 2nd edition) is as follows, it will give you a better idea of, well, its contents.

Now to answer your actual question.

I am saying that while Thiele's work is of importance, within other modules you will find material that also deals with OT chronology, builds on Theile's work, critique's Thiele's work, and brings Thiele's work up to date with more recent research. It won't have the narrow scope and deep depth of Thiele, but you will get the kernel of what Thiele disovered without all the ins and outs of how he got there.

The question is, do you NEED Thiele, or do you WANT to understand OT chronology?

I suspect that Thiele is unlikely to become an Accordance module. This is due to its age and the nature of its content, and based on what I have learned on this forum from what sort of texts eventually become modules for Accordance.

For understanding OT chronology, many Accordance resources could assist you.

Got it. Thanks.

I liked Thiele and his details and wondered if others would as well.

I see after reading your prior comments and doing a search within Accordance that he is referenced in many other works within Accordance.

I did not do a detailed read within those works to see just how he was used but based on what you are saying I assume that one can get the proper understanding of the chronologies from at least some of those works.

In my case I need Thiele for the details (but I already have it in paper) and want to understand the chronology dunno if that make a business case for Accordance. Not my problem though, just making a suggestion for consideration by others.

Thanks for the discussion, Dave.
