Mike Ross
I am interested in purchasing one of these two resources. Which one would you recommend? Blessings, Mike
Tony Lawrence
Mike, I have the Carta Bible Atlas <http://www.accordancebible.com/store/details/?pid=C-Bible%20Atlas>and Sacred Bridge <http://www.accordancebible.com/store/details/?pid=C-Sacred%20Bridge>. By far I like Sacred Bridge better. The Carta's New Century Handbook and Atlas of the Bible <http://www.accordancebible.com/store/details/?pid=C-New%20Century> is an abridged version of Sacred Bridge. I would expect the New Century Handbook to have more up-to-date information. And, one thing that would probably be a major benefit is the use of graphics. The Carta Bible Atlas has excellent maps and illustration but they a not full color. The New Century Handbook has beautiful maps and illustrations. So my recommendation would be the New Century Handbook.
ukfraser
I went for sacred bridge as well. If you go to the carta publishing site you can download a couple of pages from both. I also think i found some additional pages in view inside from amazon or samples to download to a kindle app BUT DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO GET ON KINDLE. Also there are a couple of very interesting map review sites and abram's reviews on sacred bridge (just search google). I am not sure how much new centuary is abridged, i couldnt find that anywhere but totally agree with what tony has said. I would really look at the bible atlas map examples and decide if they meet your need. They are very good but it depends what you are looking for. and that may help you decide between the two (or save or hope and wait for a sale and then get sacred bridge, i got mine when there was a general sale with something off everything on the accordance site). I spent ages looking and trying to decide between all three. Do you see this as only one resource or do you think you will get more in the future? If you get the abridged, will you regret it later and want the full sacred bridge? What do you want it for? I wanted something good on my iPad which i could also use in presentations and colour is of help ( i also have an excellent hard copy resource) Decisions, decisions but you are looking at very good resources. Mike Ross
Thanks for the responses. I will be using the material for courses that I will be teaching on a basic level. Normally, I would go for the Sacred Bridge, but I have several purchases I need to make for classes I am teaching so I have to weigh my options. It would be interesting to know just how abridged the New Century Handbook is.
Tony Lawrence
Mike, I think you would be very happy with the New Century Handbook given what you have said. But I agree with Fraser, if you think you would want Sacred Bridge in the future I would purchase it when it comes on sale. However your last question about the abridgment is answered at the end of Todd Bolen's review here: http://blog.bibleplaces.com/2007/11/carta-new-atlas.html Edited February 2, 2016 by Tony Lawrence
Daniel Francis
However your last question about the abridgment is answered at the end of Todd Bolen's review here: http://blog.bibleplaces.com/2007/11/carta-new-atlas.html Thus it seems that with CNCHAB you get about 80% of the content for 50% of the price. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.... -Dan
Mike Ross
Thanks for the link, Tony. Very helpful. I have to agree, along with Dan, that 80% of the content for 50% of the price is a very good deal. Appreciate all the help!
