EricC
Hi, I am running Accordance 11.1.3 on Mac OS 10.10.5 (Yosemite). I've got a Virtual Box virtual machine on this computer, and I run quite a lot of Windows software in it (usually what is not available for Mac). However, I decided to try Accordance on Windows. I just installed it, but haven't yet set the location for the "Accordance Files" that it wants to put my use files into. Is there a way to sync my user files between the two machines by using, say, DropBox? Or is there some other way? I'm not really too keen on using the Windows version if my highlights and notes, etc. won't show up on the Mac installation. Thank you for any advice you may have. Mike Garrity
Hi Eric, You can find out how to setup Dropbox syncing between your different Accordance installations in the help: Version 11 Installation, Updates, and Syncing > Sync to Dropbox Let us know how it works! EricC
Thanks, Mike. Sorry I didn't look there. (Duh!) So I guess I can just have both machines put my user files where Accordance wants them, and then use the Preferences pane's Syncing settings on both installations, and I'm good to go. Thank you. EricC
I set up automatic syncing on the Mac side, and manual on the Win side. At this point I really would like one-directional syncing, from Mac to Win only (since I use the Mac side regularly). Here's what I'm facing now on the Windows machine: (1.1) Highlights are not coming through (for me to see), although I can tell that Acc has synced highlight files. The file "EC-My highlights.hlt" was just synced to the Win machine. So was one other file, "My mobile hightlights.hlt". (1.2) Why are there separate highlight files for mobile & non-mobile? If I highlighted it in one place (say, iOS), I'd like it highlighted in the other too (say, Mac). (2) I guess there's no such thing as syncing workspaces? If so, that's unfortunate. I can copy them over, but syncing them would be great. I create a workspace of commentaries and related material for each book of the Bible that I study. I call them "EC Bk## Book name", where ## is the canonical order of the book. Genesis' workspace is "EC Bk01 Genesis". I've not made all of these up yet, but in any case syncing would be great. Make sure the synced highlight files are selected via the Highlight popover or the Define Highlight Styles dialog box. Also, since word highlighting is tied to a translation, you need the same text on windows. Verse highlighting will show up in all translations. (1.2) Why are there separate highlight files for mobile & non-mobile? If I highlighted it in one place (say, iOS), I'd like it highlighted in the other too (say, Mac). Both platforms use default highlight files with different names. If you want to share highlighting on all platforms then you need to choose the same highlight file on each platform (not the default) and sync. (2) I guess there's no such thing as syncing workspaces? If so, that's unfortunate. I can copy them over, but syncing them would be great. Correct, currently there is not an option for syncing workspaces. Workspaces are not restricted to the Accordance Files folder. I keep sharable workspaces in a custom folder in Dropbox that I access through the Finder. You need to make sure that you don’t update a workspace that is open on another platform! Got it! Make sure the same file is being used on both installations. Great. Works now. 2. OK, so it's possible to have the same highlights in both places. Great. 3. OK, I see that that would work to put workspace files in Dropbox and access them when you want them. And THANKS for the warning not to update one if it's open in another platform! (I probably would have just because I do those kinds of things.) Thanks for your time. Looks as if all's well.
