Reverse Quote Lookup?

I not even sure how to best ask my question.

Is there a way I can find every refence (in a given translation) where another book is quoted/referenced? For instance, if I wanted to search the Bible for every Jeremiah quote, outside of Jeremiah, how would I do that best? And not necessarily cross reference with relevance, but where the author (or speaker) in the book quotes Jeremiah?

Does that make sense?

This post is what you are looking for I think: http://brianwdavidson.com/2015/04/20/nt-in-the-didache-using-accordance-11/

You just have to use different corpora. Search for all the words in Jeremiah and then use the infer search to find verbal parallels throughout another Hebrew Bible tab. Same procedure outlined in the 2 minute video above.

Here is the same thing with the Hebrew Bible and the DSS: http://brianwdavidson.com/2015/04/21/hb-in-the-dss-using-accordance-11/

Brian's posts are a great introduction to the INFER command, and I also recommend that you use this for your search.  The only correction I'd make is that you do not need to do a * search to search for all of the words in your source text - a simple verse search will also suffice.

So, to answer your question, you'll need 2 tabs:

1) Open a tab with your desired bible, and do a verse search for 'Jeremiah' (or "Jer").  Be sure the context slider is set to zero.

2) Duplicate your tab (Command-D / Ctrl+D) or open a new tab in the same language.

3) Use the Range dialog (Command-R / Ctrl+R) to define your destination range.  In this case, you want everything but Jeremiah, so you'll want "Gen-Is, Lam-Rev" (no quotes).

4) If not done so automatically, choose this range in your new tab using the Plus icon on the right side of the entry box.

5) Add an Infer command, using either Search -> Enter Command -> INFER or typing Shift-Command-I / Ctrl+Shift+I.

6) In the dialog that appears, select the tab created in step (1).  You can customize the other options to help determine your quotes more accurately, but the default settings are a good starting point.

7) Close the dialog and hit Enter to run your search.

This tab will now contain all of the common phrases used in Jeremiah, where they occur outside of Jeremiah.  If you see a particular hit and want to find where it was referenced, simply click in the verse reference and choose Amplify -> Search Back Linked Text to see its source in Jeremiah.

I hope this helps!  You can run this search on any range using any two texts, as long as they are the same language.  So, English Translation -> English Translation, Hebrew Bible -> DSS, Septuagint -> Greek New Testament, Josephus translation -> Philo translation, etc.
