Hoehner's Ephesians: Have You Used It?

I am most likely going to be preaching on Ephesians for 12 weeks this summer (woo hoo!). Was going to try it in 6, but that may be ambitious.

 

Has anyone made their way through enough of massive Hoehner Ephesians commentary to get a sense for how it compares, say, to BECNT or ZECNT?

I would put Hoehner at the top. Hoehner taught Ephesians for alln of his seminary teaching career, and this represents the fruits of a lifetime of study of the book. In as sense he was writing this commentary his entire life (of teaching). He is a dispensationalist, so you will need to take that into account. His understanding of grammar reflects the latest scholarship of Dan Wallace's grammar, who was Hoehner's colleague (and Dan's teacher years ago). It is is a massive commentary that tackles every issue. So it is more detailed than the other two. I also think highly of the ZECNT by Arnold. I would put BECNT last.

Top exegetical commentary on Ephesians.  I have only gone through chapters 1-2 and chapter 5 completely.  Very exhaustive.

As a past student of the late Dr. Hoehner, I own and used his commentary extensively while preaching through Ephesians years ago. I would highly recommend using it while preaching through Ephesians (or for personal study for anyone else).
