Backing up or Migrating

We all need to remember that in Accordance 7 and OS X not all Accordance files are kept in the Accordance folder. Each user's preferences and saved work are stored in his Home:

~user/Library/Preferences/Accordance Preferences

and

~user/Documents/Accordance Files

These files should be backed up from time to time, and should be copied to a new Mac if the Accordance folder is copied.

However, when using backup software, or migrating to another Mac, the file types may not be retained. You can simply copy back these folders from your original Home folder, or use Joe Weaks' File Type Fixer to restore the correct File types.

If you simply delete your

~user/Library/Preferences/Accordance Preferences

Accordance will recreate them from the Preferences in the Accordance folder so you will have your modules but you will lose your ranges, settings, arrangements of modules, etc.

As long as these Preferences are bad or corrupt (which can also happen occasionally in normal use since these files are constantly being updated), reinstalling Accordance will make no difference. It is rarely necessary to reinstall everything, please do it only as a last resort. The Preferences are the key to most issues with Accordance not running.

In addition, if you get an error message about one of these files, you can simply delete it and Accordance will recreate it:

~user/Library/Preferences/com.OakTree.Accordance.Mod.txt

~user/Library/Preferences/com.OakTree.Accordance.Path.txt

Helen,

Is what you wrote true, if a person uses Time Machine to back up a computer? In other words, does Time Machine back up everything, including what is stored in places other than your home folder? Does my question make sense?

Had a quick look for the Accordance preferences folder in Finder and then opened Time Machine. It looks like it's backed up.

Can this also be done for the Windows version? What are the folder paths that should be backed up?

Hi, don’t know about XP. and I am not 100% sure about 7

but on 8 and 10

"%homepath%\Documents\Accordance Files"

"%homepath%\AppData\Local\Accordance"

"%programdata%\Accordance"
