"My Notes" Problem

Recommended Posts

Hey – For years I have been keeping my desktop and laptop computers "in agreement" by regularly moving User Notes and Highlights and User Tools from one machine to the other. I have found that I can move the Notes and Tools via email, but the Highlights must be moved using a flash drive. Until last Friday, both my machines had PowerPC processors. I now have an Intel processor in my new laptop. I moved all the same stuff today and the highlights and tools moved without any problems. The User Notes, however, are now "unavailable". What do I do? I'm assuming the problem is the difference in processors, but there may be something else going on. All else on both computers is running perfectly.

Check that the Notes file is located in user/documents/Accordance Files/User Notes and that it has the proper icon on it. If so, then try removing it from the Library window and then opening it again.

Helen – It's not in the Library window, and is in the right location with the correct icon. If I Get Info, it tells me that it's a Unix Executable file, 400KB located in /Users/juliafalling/Documents/Accordance Files/User Notes. I had already rebooted earlier to see if that cleared up the problem. I've tossed the User Notes from Applications/Accordance folder/Accordance Preferences. I'm stumped.

When I try to open it, Terminal opens instead with a bunch of gobbly-gook. If I right-click on the file and tell it Open With, then navigate to Accordance.app, the application is grayed out.

That's all because it lost its file type. Either zip it up and transfer it again from the old computer, or use Joe Weaks' File type fixer to restore the correct type.

Hey - I compressed the notes file, and also compressed the User Notes folder. I moved the separate zipped files from my laptop to my G5, unzipped them both. I tried one (just the unzipped notes file) and then the notes file that had been compressed within the User Notes folder. Neither was recognized by Accordance on the G5. I then tried dropping first one file, then the other, onto the AccordanceFileTypeFixer and then reopening Accordance. Still no success. I have quit and reopened Accordance each time. Any other ideas?
