Is there a way to simply remove single entries off the Timeline one at a time instead of defining item layers (which is more macro!)? There are some items from each layer I want to use, but if I leave the entire layer in, the picture gets garbled with too much information. I'm hoping there's a way to simply subtract layer items manually to make a timeline graphic for my sermon this Sunday with the info I want.

Sorry, you cannot delete single events from the Timeline, you must create a custom list. I know it can be tedious, but this was the only way we could find to allow editing of this database. At least now, in Define Custom Lists, you can select a subset of items, move them all to the right column, and them delete the unwanted ones. This is a relatively new feature of Accordance (moving all to the right).

Thanks, Helen. I thought that might be the case.

One more question... I started defining layers of my own, but I'm finding the words are getting cramped together, and I cannot move them. I want a VERY simple timeline for Ezra/Nehemiah, and I cannot figure out how to space out the events. Can you let me know how to do this? I attached a screen shot for reference. Thanks.... (UPDATE: actually it's not letting me upload the graphic for some reason. It tells me to have the administrator check the settings???)

Spacing the predefined events was a huge headache, and I'm afraid we give you no tools to space yours, just zoom in, and maybe set a smaller font size.

Actually, there may be something you can do with your user-created items. For each user item, you can assign a region and a subregion. The subregions are numbered 1, 2, 3, and 4 from the bottom of each region to the top. This allows you, for example, to assign items to the southern kingdom of Judah (1) and the northern kingdom of Israel (2). You can experiment with giving your user items subregion numbers to force some items to appear in the bottom or top half of the region. Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

David, I didn't spent too much time tweaking this, but I got what you were saying and tried it. 2 things... 1. I could not assign books outside subregions 1 or 2. It warned me, but I clicked OK anyway, and sure enough, they didn't show up. 2. If you only set a custom list for a single region (Israel/Palestine in my case) for defining an item layer, the corresponding timeline region is really thin and wouldn't fit more than about 5 entries in a period of 100 years. Since I'm not able to adjust the height or width of the region, or move things, I quit doing it because it didn't look promising to fit anything more.

I think it may just be easier to not use this module for custom made timelines for teaching and more for reference?

Darren,

E-mail me your User Items file (You'll find it in your user folder/Library/Preferences/Accordance Preferences) and I'll see what I can figure out. My e-mail address is dlang [at] accordancebible [dot] com.

Dave, thanks for the offer to help. I appreciate that, but I worked around it a bit and figured out a simple timeline that I used Sunday. Regards, Darren

There seem to be relatively few discussion items on the Timeline. I thought of it as a static list and so never really considered it until I watched David Lang's video tutorials on the Timeline. I was amazed. I have used other computer timelines but never anything like this. I just squeezed in with the special price and have been experimenting with it. I thought it was going to be an 'ice candy' addition to my Accordance modules but 'I repent'; it is a very SERIOUS tool for Bible study.

And I want to add a special 'thank you', as one of the 10% of males who have a colour deficiency, for the default colours! Some may regard them as garish but they are perfect for me. A really great addition to my Accordance!
