module updating issues

There are a couple of possibilities here, all of them related to the speed of the internet at any given time. Yes, downloading fewer modules at once will help. Here are some other suggestions:

1. If you are on a wireless connection, go to a wired connection for the download.

2. If you are connected to one or more servers, log off those servers before updating.

3. Internet speed varies enormously, depending upon the time of day. Try updating late at night or very early in the morning.

4. It is possible something major is wrong with your internet connection or OakTree's. There's nothing you can do about the latter but wait, but you can check the former by trying to access a familiar web site. If it is slow too, try resetting your cable modem [or whatever internet connection you are using]. If that doesn't work, contact your internet provider to see if they are experiencing problems.

Hope this helps! :)

I was just reading the above but thought it best to open a new discussion on this same topic:

I have successfully completed many updates however the following 3 always fail with connection time-out errors and I just end up leaving them in the updater box. I know for a fact that the internet speed is excellent during the times I try to download. I have internet at home and at work and it fails in both locations.

is there any way to get a separate zip type download for them that doesn't use the updater mechanism? (sorry not too much of a techie but I hope that made sense)

These large files caused problems in 8.1.2 but should download OK in 8.2. What version are you using? We are not set up to provide automatic downloads of zip files, but you can update via the Primary 8.1.DVD for $15.

I have just updated to 8.2 which is what prompted me to try the downloads again. Still no joy though, its no biggie and if I still have problems when I'm next in the US I'll pick up the latest Primary DVD.

Hi,

I get the same problem using version 9.1.1 on the following modules ESVS, AMP, BHS-W4, ASV, Easton. I managed to download other updates but the larger once seem to fail, I have a full 3.6 Meg download speed. Other websites are working, webmail etc all work but the connection timeout.

Even though you replied to a post that is almost two years old, relating to a different version of the program, some of the same issues still apply. It's rather unusual to be able to download smaller files and not the ones you mention, which are not large themselves. However, any break in the transmission will end the download, and Accordance currently does not resume the download. Some people are thus unable to download the really large (over 100-500MB) files even after repeated attempts.

I suggest finding a more reliable internet service, but if that fails you can order the products on disk. Currently all our modules are available on disk, for an additional charge.
